When I lived in Atlanta, on 2 separate occasions in two separate bookstores, some random dude came up to me acting like he knew me. Don't we work together? Do you work in so-and-so building? Even when I told them both I had never met them, nor work where they said they saw me(2 different places) they kept on.
I figured they were either gay and that was some secret way to hook up, or they were in some pyramid scheme they were looking to get people involved in. Neither seemed gay, so my guess was the latter. I told them both to leave me alone after a few questions from them.

I was at the grocery store a few weeks ago and I guess I wasn't in a big enough hurry for this one lady. I hear "mumble mumble...no sense of urgency...mumble mumble". Then I ran into her again a few aisles later, same damn thing, bunch of mumbling under her breath about me being too slow. I mean I wasn't in a big hurry but on the other hand I wasn't deliberately trying to get in her way or anything. Just kinda going about my business at a normal pace. She never said anything directly to me so I just pretended not to hear any of her incoherent mumbling (which is mostly true) and ignored her.

These two girls I worked with told me that they use to work with a guy at another job. He was an industrial engineer. He was odd as hell. Awkward loner type. One day they said ole boy came into work all scratched up. Bandaids on. They asked what happened and he said he put his cats in the shower with him and when he turned on the water they went nuts and scratched him all up.

The danger is in lighting up. The cigarette itself is not an issue. Of course most people don't science, so.
BTW, cell phones a perfectly safe as well. Getting in and out of your car on a cold dry day is way more likely to present a problem.

I'm not saying I'm right, I just have met some jackasses that do that. I think it's their way of insulting you, but leaving themselves a way to back out. I've even heard people brag about their technique.
