In high school my civics teacher had his friend in the coroner's office give a slide presentation. One slide showed a Datsun 240 Z that drove through a barricade on I12. The contractor had stacked a bunch of rebar on some supports. Well the 240 hit it and the bar went through the windshield and through the drivers chest and then through the floor. That image has stuck with me for almost 40 years.
Years later I was having some tile laid. The tilers were a father and son. On a break the dad asked the son how his arm was doing. Turns out about 2 years earlier his son fell asleep and ran off the road. He hit a chain link fence and the top rail broke off and penetrated his chest and passed through the truck rear windows. He remained conscious the whole time the firemen were cutting the pipe to extract him from the truck. I asked when did he realize his situation. He said he tried to get out of the truck but he couldn't. He then started coughing and could feel blood running down his back. His story was something that Steven King could have written.

In Pensacola, there was a wreck ... Multiple teens going at high speed into a tree. It was the first realization to me, as a teen, about how quickly a bad decision can have fatal consequences . That tree was on the edge of the Osceola golf course and so you walked past it all the time
The other, for me was a crane being carried by a semi coming off interstate and made a hard left hand turn....crane toppled over and crushed the car next to it. I was pulling into that road a hundred yards up the way when it happened. Who knows what that poor lady that died had plans for that day. I give extra extra wide space, while driving, to any flat bed carrying something held by chains/straps

The under age kids leaving Moonlight inn and hit culvert on hwy 16
The kids from Belaire on Drusilla. Remember hearing the chain link fence acted like a cheese grater
The family in the van that was rear-ended on the Amite river bridge by 18 wheeler and sheared body off of frame and pressed it like a pancake into the 18 wheeler in front of them

These were my friends and classmates
My nephew was best friends with one of them. I had volunteered to go to the funeral with him if his parents couldn't make it (becasue unfortunately work doesn't usually give you 4 days off in a week for funerals). Glad I didn't have to go.
My sister was killed by a drunk driver in Opelousas when she was 20 and it would've been rough to go to one of those again

I actually worked on the suit related to this one. A garbage truck was having engine issues and going roughly 20 MPH. The tanker was coming over the bridge and ran into the back of the garbage truck and exploded. Only the garbage truck driver died.

remember a wreck very similar to the one Speedy posted about that happened around April/May of 1990 on Greenwell Springs Road just north of Morgan Rd....Similar circumstances and results. Horrific
Yep, I remember this one. There was a fight at the Comite River. I guy jumped in a vehicle to leave and the opposing group chased after him, 5 guys in the back of a truck. The truck hit a tree across from the old Circle K near Bellingrath entrance. Several of the guys died, one was named Mike Sullivan. He sat next to me in Algebra. That empty desk was a solemn reminder.

A couple of them are etched in my brain. When I was growing up we would go visit my grandparents in Lawtell. We’d take 190 each way. When we were between erwinville and port Allen, we came across a cane truck stopped near an old weigh station. There was a car under the back all the way to the back doors. Instant death for someone.
Another was when I was in high school at Central in 92. Matt Buhler and Jason Leblanc were killed when their Toyota truck bounced off a guardrail and went head on into a ford dually. If the guardrail wouldn’t have been there they would have gone into a field. One of my friends , smack Daniel’s ,called to tell me that night and I still think about that to this day.

Friend of a friend was driving his crotch rocket super fast on I-10. He was coming over a hill when all traffic was stopped for whatever reason. He tried to split between the stopped cars and was decapitated by something, most likely a truck mirror. Back in late 90's

I remember one around this time where the guys ran off the road after school and hit a culvert on Sullivan.
Maybe I don't remember all of the details correctly. It's been over 30 years at this point.

It was on Sullivan just past the old concrete plant. I think there is a subdivision across the road from it now.

I have another teen driver right now, and it makes you nervous they are going to do something stupid.

Go back and read this thread. I just posted here this morning and then realized that I made a very similar post in 2020 concerning these wrecks. You did too. Sad days in Central. I remember when Matt Oswald died on Frenchtown road in 1992-93 also late one weekend night. I drove up on that wreck as they were taking him away in a hearse.

I still remember his burgundy F150 step side . Definitely sad days . Central lost quite a few students back then . Lance Morrow was killed accidentally when skipping school to dove hunt . The guy that accidentally shot him died in a motorcycle crash a few years ago.

Company I worked for had a f350 dually coming back from Nola when a small Dodge pickup hydroplaned across the median and caught the dually head on. Dodge guy didn't make it. Engineer from a BR company. 2001 ish.

2003 ish a CHS student hit and killed a man working on his car on the side of the road. Student went home not knowing he hit him. Never an arrest made
2005 is a CHS student that lived out in central or Zachary died in a crash
That’s the only notable CHSbr ones I know of from when I was in school
