Crazy that people pay a lot of money to live in cool places. And not as much to live in crappy suburbs. Central Austin TX costs a frick ton. People are paying a half million dollars for a ranch house in a gentrifying hood

Try a city 30-60 minutes from Sacramento and you'll find home values comparable to New Braunfels.

t’s just amazing how much better the quality of living is in Texas compared to San Fran. People there pay millions to live on less than 1 acre and also have to deal with human shite on the streets.
Yes, living in San Fran with your income - or mine for that matter - would suck. Living in San Fran with tech bro income = badass.
Those people could live anywhere. They’re not choosing to live in the Bay Area because they’ve never heard of Plano.

Do you have any idea how much companies like google pay around the bay area? The prices are rediculous because so is the demand. For programmers, the bay area is gold rush territory with everyone trying to find a place from which to prospect. Those opportunities don’t exist in the hill country.

My sister lives right across the street from the Hula Hut on Lake Austin Blvd and her house is worth over a million. It looks like a normal, nondescript $250-300k house in most other areas.

Currently living in the SF Bay Area and planning to move because it’s too damn expensive. We are close to affording all cash on a really nice place elsewhere with what would be a deposit and an 800k mortgage here.

This is the cheapest non apartment/condo I found for sale. Around 1,800 sq ft for a stand alone house. $699,000
In Sf, that's the bayview district. It's like North Baton Rouge there, that's why it will sell for only 800k. Pretty decent deal for the area though.

I like New Braunfels. Not everyone wants to live in some dense urban area

I'm sorry to hear that.

What will $700k get you in Montana or Wyoming? If you’re an amazing programmer or IT analyst you can live anywhere.

I work in IT and could absolutely find a remote job. It's high on the list when my kid is done with school in 6 years.

You gonna spend 700K?

Probably not even close. Maybe 400k

Same here but I’ve got more than 6 years to go until my youngest is out of high school. In the meantime, I really like the area that I am living in and I have a cottage in Northern Wisconsin that fills the void for outdoor living.

I'll be 47 when the youngest finishes HS. Still young enough to kind of figure out where I want to go.

And many live out of the country

If there is a decent enough internet connection you can really live anywhere.

I'd be ok with this but not the wife. Maybe somewhere in the Asheville area she'd tolerate. I'd have to get divorced to move out into the middle of Wyoming.
