Dude didn't care how many lives the battles cost.

It was not pretty but it worked. You have to use the tools at your disposal and he had the advantage of having more men.

Indeed.

Grant didn't care too much for the Academy and didn't want to be there to begin with. His father pretty much forced him to go. The only three things he was interested in while he was there were mathematics, horseback riding, and artistry. His goals weren't all that high either, as he often said he wanted to return to West Point to be an associate professor of mathematics.

It wasn't until the Mexican-American War that Grant discovered a fire inside of him that was only present on the battlefield. He hated the sight of blood but relished the adrenaline rush provided to him by a stand-up battle. Ironic that a man who started out detesting military life grew to become so successful at it.

I’d love to see them erect a statue of Lee right beside it. I think that would send a message of solidarity.

I guess you haven’t realized the loons are not just going after confederate statues, but also “winners”.

Cracks me up that the people who say shite like this are usually the same people that tell black people they should 'get over' slavery. It was over 160 years ago. How are you still mad?

I wouldn't complain too much about old dead white guys, for the most part, old dead white guys got this country to where it is today. Should probably be a few more statues around.

He owned one slave that he either bought or was given to him. The man's name was William Jones. When he needed money, instead of selling Jones, he set him free.

Grant held onto William after the emancipation proclamation for several months before he set him free, however.
