ITT: nostalgia overflow and rose-tinted glasses. Most people feel their childhood era was the best. It's natural.

Case in point:
quote:

No, but you got to experience the core 90s, one of the 2 main periods of Millennial kid culture (the other being the 1998-2004 Y2K period).

You had:
-90s Nickelodeon
-Disney Afternoon
-Disney Renaissance movies
-FOX Kids
-SNES vs. Genesis
-DOS and Amiga games (Doom, Lemmings, Turrican, etc.)
-4th and earlier 5th generation gaming
-TMNT, Power Rangers and Pogs

I had:
-Powerhouse Cartoon Network
-Toon Disney pre-Jetix
-Pre-movie SpongeBob
-Pokemon, Powerpuff Girls, Dragon Ball Z, and Yu-Gi-Oh
-Kids WB (Turner/Time Warner DOMINATED this era)
-Tamagotchis and Furbies
-Humongous Entertainment games
-PopCap when they still had a diverse library
-Later 5th and 6th generation gaming
-Web 1.0

The 90s and early-mid 2000s was truly the best time to be a kid. It all came to a crashing half in 2006 when the 7th generation of gaming, Hannah Montana, and Ben 10 ruined everything. At least YouTube was golden during the late 2000s.

This was my childhood era and I loved it too. Born in 88. I'm just not under any false pretense that any particular era was greater than another. They all have pros and cons.

Can't beat the 90s (I was born in 85). Best cartoons, best pro wrestling, best toys, best sports.

Parents inspecting Halloween candy.....good times, and a nun at school told us that is we listened to Heavy Metal we were going to Hell. Someone posted earlier too, massive football parties and everyone drove home smashed. Dad included.

I still think the best time was 2000-2010, real post-college money and no kids yet!

there are more activities and opportunities available than ever. it's on the parents if the kids are hooked on ipad and fortnite.

That doesn't count. That's the best decade for most regardless of the decade it occurs.

We had one of the first satellite systems, huge disk in yard, you could hold 2 or 3 buttons at once on the remote and get japanese porn, finally figured out to put toothpicks in buttons.

Dude, you were a rich kid. Probably had Intellivision or....Coleco vision on a Curtis Mathis TV while I was fricking around with Atari Combat on a black and white 17 inch Sanyo.

We had one of these.

When it was pointed in one direction we picked up ABC 6 and NBC 13. If you wanted to watch CBS 42 you had go outside and turn it. We also had PBS 10. But other than NOVA I hated PBS.

8th grade Field Trip to freakin Disney World cost my parents $70 in 1976.
Playing in the woods, football and baseball on the neutral ground, late night jailbreak games with all the kids in the neighborhood. Looking for coke bottles on the side of the road, cashing them in and buying baseball cards with gum in the pack.
Riding our bikes to Lake Pontchartrain to fish and crab, Jefferson Downs to watch horses run, St Charles Parish Line for fishing and crabbing. Saints games in Tulane Stadium using youth tickets, Jazz tickets bought at shoe town for $1-2.00 and starting off in the Terrace, but courtside after half time.
Life was really good!

'80's were great as a kid. But, I remember hearing a rant from a comedian that it kind of sucked if you were a little older as you missed free love/drugs of the '60's/'70s and then X and rainbow parties in the '90's. Meanwhile, the chicks were wearing baggy clothes and everyone was freaked out about AIDS. All of that said, if you got to enjoy the early '80's coke decadence, good on you.

The 80s was a great decade but not as great as the 70s IMHO.

Born in ‘71 so definitely can relate to many experiences mentioned so far.

In addition to simplicity of childhood with positive beginnings of widely used technology, the decade was also incredible for TV, movies, music, and sports.

A couple of major events/themes that I think greatly impacted those of us that grew up in the 80s which are hard to relate to unless you experienced it...the end of the Cold War removed a huge perceived threat that existed since the end of WW2 while AIDS certainly put a damper on the fun (at least during the teenage years).

Other than the uncertainties and unknowns of AIDS (at the time), the 80s were about as good as any decade if not better.

Born in 1968, it was a lot of fun. But the 70's were fun too.

I was born in 61, so in the 70's I didn't think about how fricked up things like Vietnam and Watergate were, got to see most of the space race, liked the TV shows of the late 60's and 70's, got to do the "look for tits on the scrambled TV", and wasn't that old in the 80's so they were good too.

I can't tell much difference in the last 20 years or so but that is probably a function of my age.
