Just because people were ignorant of the things that were happening around doesn’t mean things were great
The 80s and 90s were all time highs for violence, crime, drugs, teen pregnancy, etc.
They were not great. People were, and still are apparently, ignorant.
And apparently you’re pretty ignorant because all I was simply trying to convey to him the mentality of that time. Sure people heard about the drug wars in the streets of places like Miami, LA, Detroit, and other major cities. But like I said, unless you lived there yourself, that violence had little to no impact on your life.
And you only further prove your ignorance by trying to judge an era you never experienced nor really understand.

Another thing not mentioned is that fast food seemed to taste a lot better them. Mc Donalds was so good (maybe because it was a treat) and Pizza Hut was amazing. I

I think I ate McDonald’s for the first time at 15.

And the big city thing doesn’t hold up either.
All those numbers were at an all time high across the board, from small town USA to NYC.

Now, THIS is fricking true. Before Pizza Hut sold out (tried to compete with delivery would be more accurate) when you had to go to the restaurant and sit in the booth and get your drinks in the red plastic cups and play the sit-down video game while you waited for them to bake your pizza in the kitchen where you could see the oven and the giant arse dough mixer they'd make the dough in every day and then they'd send it through the pass-through when it was ready so the waitress could bring it to you and serve everyone their first piece of pizza, it was fricking awesome. They also made this...

I was born I ‘76 and ‘84-‘88 we’re absolutely epic. I’d even say from ‘82-‘88. Seemed like about a 15year span. Time moved slow, but every second of it seemed so great. I remember Friday nights, my friends and I would watch the Incredible Hulk at 7, Dukes of Hazzard at 8, then my mom would kick us off of the TV for Dallas. THEN, Saturday morning cartoons before the “cartoons are so violent” bullshite. After that...all day football until LSU came on (on old-school Tigervision a lot of times). Would have or attend a sleepover with friends and cousins, then football all day Sunday as well. Always remember having a lot of friends and family over, seemingly every weekend. Sometimes I’ll look at old pics my mom still has from those times. Like looking into a time warp. MAN those times were glorious

I think the 80s were a great time to grow up, then again, i grew up in the 80s, so of course I’m gonna think that... But guess what, my brother was born in the late 80s, and he thinks the 90s were the best time to grow up, with the Ninja Turtles and crap like that.. And my Mom is convinced that the 50s were the best decade to grow up in.. One day someone’s gonna look back and think the 2010s, or whatever we’re going to call the period we’re in now, was the absolute best time to be a kid.
It’s one of those things that’s impossible to be objective about, and there is no right answer.

You’re wrong.
As you can see, rural crime rates in the 80s were pretty much where they are today. The spike in crime rates came from the urban areas. Thus, as I’ve tried telling you twice already, unless you lived in an urban area in the 80s, the rise in crime didn’t affect you.

Born in ‘53. I would not change being a kid back then for any other time. I’m sure all ‘good old day reasons’ are known to everyone. The current technology is great, I mean look what we are doing, but the simple things and the ignorance of the worst things in the world are my preference.

My 5th grade field trip, we went to the French Market. There were vendors back then who sold martial arts weapons, which we purchased in full view and with the blessing of our teachers and chaperones. We’re talking Nunchucks, butterfly knives, ninja throwing stars, etc. we then brought them on the bus and back to school and no one raised an eyebrow.
THIS!!! Literally had the EXACT same experience on a 5th grade field trip to New Orleans probably around ‘86 or so. I think it was a field trip to the Audubon Zoo that wound up at the French Market. Came home with a few Chinese stars. My mom just asked I not throw them at my sister’s face. Haha. So great!!

Cool. I didn’t mention just crime though.
Also, I didn’t realize we were limiting this to rural areas.
Not sure how this point is even relevant.
I would also like to see how that charts breaks down rural vs urban.

I guess you’re also talking s out pregnancy rates? Again, while they were higher in the 80s, they were much higher in urban areas than rural areas. And by rural, I mean small town America.

Don't forget the garlic bread topped with mozzarella. So good.

Pregnancy, drug overdoses... almost every bad statistic you can come up with.
And I’m not asking how you define rural areas, I’m asking how your chart defines it.

My mom had a biography of Roger Vadim who was a french movie director and producer. In the middle of it were some black and white photos that showed the arse of either Bardot or Deneuve. That pic got a workout.
