This is complete bullshite! As a black guy that holds a degree in Finance and Economics, Series 7 & 66, Life and Health insurance licenses, P&C insurance licenses, and a mortgage license, he is so full of crap. I have worked in finance in car various roles, mostly within in the banking system, and I have seen this lie they try and propagate. You mean to tell me that you can find a white person, with no education out of high school, get an entry-level job as a teller and move up to manager within three years, but can't find any black people to even bring in as a teller? Funny how this is always the case, especially in the south.

I could be wrong, but I got the sense he wasn't referencing plain ol' commercial banking stuff, and my impression has been that there are a lot of black people in commercial banking at all levels.

I think he's more referencing investment banking, and yes, the pool is pretty damn small there, and the competition is fierce as frick for that pool of people. Same in management consulting. Same for the white shoe law firms. Same for FAANG tech companies. So on and so on. You can't really just train any old Joe off the street for the rainmaker roles in those fields.

Yeah, but I had the licenses as well as years of experience. Some white candidates were hired with no experience in the financial industry, and no licenses. See the difference?

It is called the real world and it isn't a race thing.

For example, ivy league grads love to only hire other ivy league grads and pass on better candidates. White people get screwed over all the time too just because they don't have the right connections.

It isn't about race. The difference is no white people are being offered jobs sight unseen just because the color of their skin.

Being from Alabama, nope, because I know I won't get a fair shot otherwise. With all my credentials, experience, and education I still couldn't get an interview with any bank in Alabama. In more liberal areas like Atlanta, Tampa, Houston and Charlotte, I got job offers without a formal interview.

You couldn’t get an interview? How did you approach it, was it an online application or did you hand in your resume in person? I just find that incredibly hard to believe, especially with the certifications and qualifications you said you had.

Realism isn't racism. I owned a small tech company, I always had a position open for a qualified MCIE person. The more qualified people I could find, the work I could take on.

I would interview people every week, advertised on well established pages as an EEOC employer, in 8 years I got one black tech, no women.

He's chippy, and rightfully so. I get your point, however.

I'd be interested in seeing the numbers. Are there a limited number of black people in the finance and banking industry. Or is there just a limited number of black people who apply for the postings.

It's weird how people expect companies to hire whites/blacks 50/50. Yet black people don't make up even close to 50% of the country. Moreso, depending upon the industry and location. Black people are not going to make up 50% of the applicants for most posted positions.
