Third and final tirade. In my extensive but still limited exposure, African blacks really have to work their arse off here. Really. They´re behind two eight balls (American blacks hate them, and according to many, The Man). Good for them. Keep at it. They´re amazing. Truly. Just a comment of admiration (but some a-hole will call me patronizing).

We had a meeting and our uppers told us to do better. Our overall response was we have no inputs on who applies for a job. You can't just give it to anyone. They need a certain amount of qualifications. That isn't our departments problem.

This is complete bullshite! As a black guy that holds a degree in Finance and Economics, Series 7 & 66, Life and Health insurance licenses, P&C insurance licenses, and a mortgage license, he is so full of crap. I have worked in finance in car various roles, mostly within in the banking system, and I have seen this lie they try and propagate. You mean to tell me that you can find a white person, with no education out of high school, get an entry-level job as a teller and move up to manager within three years, but can't find any black people to even bring in as a teller? Funny how this is always the case, especially in the south.

As a black man, do you not find affirmative action and hiring quotas based on race insulting? Liberals are telling you that they dont think you can succeed on your own. That you cant find the way to success on your own, you need their help.

I am not black and cannot fairly answer this, but I would be irate and insulted if there were hiring quotas for someone of my race.

Well those same people that started off as tellers became regional managers and so on. Hell, one kept getting promoted and is now a Sr. Analyst, I kid you not, but that's the south for you, Alabama in particular. Good ole boy system to its finest

Would they prefer to hire people who aren't qualified, solely based on skin color? Who benefits from that arrangement?

Being from Alabama, nope, because I know I won't get a fair shot otherwise. With all my credentials, experience, and education I still couldn't get an interview with any bank in Alabama. In more liberal areas like Atlanta, Tampa, Houston and Charlotte, I got job offers without a formal interview.

Without an interview, how did they know you were black?

Nonsense. As someone who works in the financial sector in Alabama, I can say with certainty there is a concerted effort to hire minorities. It just makes business sense to do so. This says a lot about you imo.

Are you trying to work in the financial sector outside of Birmingham? Because that would also be a you problem and would have more to do with your struggles.

So if you can not get an interview because you're black is it possible to get a job offer without an interview just because you are black?

maybe he should fish where the fish are. i'm referring to liberty bank. i made the mistake when i moved here to go inside to inquire about opening an account. i looked out of place and they made me feel out of place.

i then realized this is a black owned bank and they let me know it.

Maybe it is you? I know a lot of guys in the AL financial industry killing it, and they happen to black. Good guys. Now the shitty people getting promoted is every where though. It isn't skin specific.

Couldn't tell you. So you're saying jobs in Birmingham, Alabama, discriminate against black people? Come on man. No one's buying that.

Just look at Birmingham City and Jefferson County government jobs to easily find this. They have positions they can only get qualified white people to apply for, so they just don't fill the job and instead wait and post it again later. First qualified black person to apply gets the job.
