I'm wondering if it's because she was a teacher at the school the girl went to? I guess there are ways she could still be in a position of power or influence over her (coach, influence teachers/admin, etc.).

Actually, 16 is the age of consent in Indiana according to Wikipedia. I'm not sure how this was a crime, given that she obviously wasn't the girl's teacher.

I don't find this to be that big a deal. At 17 I had graduated high school and joined the military. I turned 18 a month and a half after boot camp. At least don't charge her with a felony.

Looks like the DA and judge agrees although if this was a man, he’d be under the jail. I don’t see how men and women get separate sentences. Should be the exact same. And not this 40 days and probation.
