Why would that be ridiculous? I'm pretty sure it's about celebrating your love for your new spouse. If you think it's weird, don't go.
There are some very odd people who post here.

We've already celebrated his love for his first spouse...
6 years later and 500 people and I will be celebrating his love for his next spouse...

I felt pretty dead by the end of my marriage.

What if you're divorced, but she has never been married before? I went through absolute hell with my ex-wife. If I ever meet a girl that I'm so crazy about to marry her, you can be damn sure I'm going to give her wedding or whatever she wants. Some people can't help that they did all they could, and it wasn't enough for their spouse.

No I was not Jody, though I did have a platonic with extras relationship with her before she began dating her first husband, I did not continue the extras part of the relationship beyond that time.

Lots of miserable fcks as usual in this thread.
If the couple wants to do it and you consider them a friend, go have fun and enjoy the special event with them.

and i don't think divorce should be illegal or anything
it's always just funny/awkward to me at a 2nd wedding b/c everyone is just pretending the first one never happened. i'm waiting for my first "second wedding" when either the bride or groom crack a joke about the absurdity of their vows given all the info
i've never been married
i don't want a big wedding (or a wedding at all) for my first wedding
i can't imagine that i'd want a big production if i ever got married, then divorced, and re-married

Free booze and a big arse party? Sounds terrible.

You're attending and yet you ask the question. You sound like a very indecisive guy.

What does this mean? Why would you be hesitant to go?
When a friend gets married the first time, you'll go to the ends of the earth for them. When it's the second wedding five years after the first, five hours away on a Friday, you kind of ask yourself if it's worth it.

I'm definitely never, ever having another wedding. I can't stand being the center of attention, so I'm pretty adamant about eloping next time. I don't begrudge anyone else having parties for subsequent marriages, but it's so not for me.

I feel like you buried the headline here, the fact that they're getting married on NYE is what was most notable. However, if they're planning it for NYE and asking everyone to spend it with them, they probably intend for it to be a blowout. So, you could go to a restaurant and pay 3x what you would any other night of the year, or you could go party with your friends for free and celebrate their commitment to each other.

Some may consider my situation different because of the fact that I'm widowed, but as I said earlier, it would be a small gathering if I were to marry a woman that had been married before. Honestly, I'd be fine with inviting a bunch of people to a party that is held afterwards and not having them really know what the party was for until they were actually there. Just show up and let everyone know.

My second wedding - 4 people:
- my good friend and councilman who was legally able to marry us... This was his first time officiating
- me and my fiance
- my wife's best friend who also happened to be a professional photographer
We went in the dead of winter through the woods to a secluded overlook and brought nothing but candles and a portable Bluetooth speaker playing Frank Sinatra radio.
$50. Best day of my life.
