We are attending a wedding on New Year's Eve where both the bride and groom have previously been married. Question for you all, is it just me or is it a bit ridiculous to have a wedding after both the bride and groom have previously been married and divorced?

Why are you worried about what they want to do with their life? If it bothers you so much just don't go to the wedding.

It didn't used to be common.

I think that it's becoming more so. I've been invited to a few in last couple years. I normally just send regrets in those instances.

We just attended one of these and they went all out, like it wasn't a small wedding

it was odd to me as well

I can't imagine wanting to have a big wedding after a divorce...I can't imagine wanting to get married after a divorce really

Free booze, food and music on NYE? Hell, send me your invite if you aren't going. And see a doctor to get that stick removed from your arse.

Weddings are all ridiculous, be it the first marriage or the 5th.

If it's open bar, more the merrier. I'm not paying . It's their money . Just go have fun.

Now, for me? My dad was sure to let me know "son, I hope you stay married forever ; but if not, I'm only paying for one of these".

You're not the only one. I know someone doing the same thing this NYE, but they're doing it right and it's pretty much just a party for their immediate family and closest friends. Anything more is kinda weird.

I don't attend second marriages unless some tragic event happened to end the previous marriage.

ETA:

After you have kids, even after a divorce, they should be the priority. No second marriages.

It's ridiculous because the have both show that the marriage ceremony means nothing to them and that its just a bullshite gathering of friends. They should just hold a party and get married outside of church. God know they're full of shite and don't really mean it.

nobody is shitting on them

jesus

I just think it is odd to have another big ceremony, especially if both have already done the big celebration thing

I still went and had a great time and congratulated them and all that

Is despising someone considered a tragic event?

Yeah, I'm on the team for not having a large second wedding. But to each their own.

Not completely ridiculous, but they certainly don't need to make a production out of it.
They shouldn't expect any gifts either.

I think that is the way to do it. There is nothing wrong with having another wedding, but if I were to get married again, it would be a small event for immediate family and extremely close friends.

Also, I agree with others in this thread. No gifts.

Oh, this one will be the same. I believe they were expecting around 500.
