The only thing trashy is inviting friends who are too poor to afford to slip some pocket change at a lavish party for a dance with the bride or groom.

I've heard of folks getting a money tree but never a money dance.

Couples I've spoken to typically got $6-9k at the wedding wedding, just in envelopes. Didn't have to do any trashy dance begging for money.

What's the difference? They still were trashy enough to beg for money, just in a more discrete way. Are you too good for keg beer as well?

Super trashy. We would never have allowed that shite at our wedding.

However, we did charge cover to get into the reception, and we had a cash bar that we told the facility to "charge extra" so that we can take a bit of those profits as well.

But seriously, I've been to wedding that have them and been to a lot that don't. I don't know if it's regional or not, but it certainly is a class level thing. Not saying you are trashy for having one, but I've not been to really "nice" weddings where they had them. It's usually done at your average wedding where they aren't trying to go over the top. Or your "fancy blue jean" type reception

Didn't realize the OT had so many poors who don't like pinning $5 on a bride

It isn't about the money. Go on trying to justify it though it lets us all know how trashy you are

Newsflash: Having money and having class are not mutually inclusive. Your experience at expensive weddings with money dances was certainly evidence of that

Next time I get married, I am having a reception line like in GoodFellas where everyone has to wait to hand the bride envelopes stuffed with 100's. Screw it, if we are going to be trashy I want to make thousands off of it.

Like i've said before, i've been to weddings at the Houston Country Club and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Full of rich snobby people, especially the Houston one. Both had a money dance.

I refused to have a Money Dance at my wedding 24 years ago. I figured if I could not afford to throw the party why have my friends help finance it with a money dance. I worked as a mobile DJ on the west bank from 85-93 and I played a many of money dances and never understood a one of them. wedding after wedding I would queue up Color My World by Chicago, Always and Forever by Heatwave, and Just My Imagination by the Temptations for the money dance.

Location of the reception doesn't matter. The amount spent on the reception doesn't matter. A money dance is always tactless and probably a signal that the people aren't as "classy" as you think they are, or they had a brief lapse in judgement and taste.

Baw, I'm not married nor have I ever been. Most of family did it at theirs though. They aren't poor by any means. It's essentially like giving a wedding gift.

99% chance you aren't as classy as you think you are.

For what it's worth.

If you are needing something like this to define people, rather than take it for what it is- a fun way to dance with the bride and groom and for them to get a little extra cash, then that becomes 100%.
