Believe me it's happened.
I guarantee a less qualified minority got a scholarship while you didn't. Or got that internship you wanted. Or that job, or promotion.
Something has happened where you've been boned behind the scenes.

Apparently you can't. Go back and read the comments I was responding to when you responded to me.

The original post was made by Rize and the scenario he laid out. That is not a common situation and the managers comments arent common either. That is a firable offense. I never once said companies dont make hires based on diversity, but it isnt common for in network transfers/promotions to be turned down because of race.

the biggest showing of suppression of the white man is in corporate america. It was a normal thing in college. IF you were a female and had over a 3.0 in the engineering department and a decent personality, you were guaranteed offers from major companies. Most of them had multiple offers. The boys were lucky to get offers from sub par companies. You had to know someone to get offers that the girls got.

Ok, then why respond to my post when I wasn't even talking about the original situation anymore?

Rize's subsequent post:

quote:

but that doesn’t change the fact that there was a push to hire someone to check a box vs the best hire.

Powerman's response:

quote:

Sure. I just don't think things like that are very common

My response to Powerman:

quote:

You must not work in corporate America.

Well my assumption was that Powerman was still talking about that. It seems he is based on the flow you just posted. Not a big deal though, just letting you know my response was about that original scenario.

Losers always have to blame someone else.

So they blame us white guys. I'm not saying there haven't been injustices put onto minorities by white people; that is certainly not the point.

Almost all of my problems are caused by a specific white male. That guy is a mess at times. He actually posts on the OT. He’s actually posted in this very thread. This very response, as a matter of fact.

Most problems people have can be traced to bad decisions or misguided attempts to fix problems that either aren't there or were artificially created.

The first part is fine enough, if you want to take it without any context. This second part is total bullshite. Most problems people have, the biggest ones, are beyond their control. The universe is random. It is not fair. People do not deserve to be born into poverty, and children do not deserve to get cancer.

I’m a white man. Never been blamed for anyone’s problems. I don’t have social media tho so maybe that’s your problem.

For some reason white dudes are the most apologetic of all groups. I once had a white guy apologizing to me for what another white guy said. I was called “Bruce Lee” (clearly a friendly joke) and racially sensitive dude said “ I’m sorry to say that was a a little racist”. I said “no, it wasn’t”.

Funny part is that racially sensitive guy waited for the other guy to leave before bringing it up.

If you cant make fun of yourself, or take a joke. You've missed out on a lot of humor life has to offer.

I think we're doing a good job in 2020 as a society of having a level playing field.

With that, I say this - if you're a white male, you're born in America with a leg up.

People tend to like their own, right? That can be said of most things - LSU fans like LSU fans, Jews tend to congregate with other Jews, Christians, Muslims, the same thing.

Because of what life was like in the US up until...eh, maybe after the OJ Simpson trial? It wasn't great to be a minority in America. You couldn't buy a house in certain neighborhoods, couldn't get certain jobs, and strictly with the power of compounding interest, other minorities haven't been able to build up the wealth white men have been able to. It's simple math.

In the industry I worki in, virtually every meeting I go to is filled with 90% white males. It's cool, I'm in that bunch. It's worked out for me. But I'm not stupid to know that systematically, I was given a chance that others without my background, educational and networking opportunities, could not have.

Think you need to see both sides here. As Americans, I think we're doing a good job of progressing as a culture - seeing the other side. I do think some people have extremist views, and that too is ridiculous. What person wouldn't seize the opportunities or advantages they have?

Stirring the pot, I think most of our society's problems lie with the Baby Boomer generation. Their 80's mentality drove us into the 2008 housing crash. They've allowed universities to stockpile billion-dollar endowments and pay tenured professors to stack big money for teaching one class, and writing a think-piece once a year, while driving the cost of education up 7% annually. If I had a kid today, at that same rate of growth it will cost me 250K to send my kid to a state university in 18 years. Moreover, they are the most miserable and divided generation. Every single generation below them has seen divorce rates plummet. For Boomers? Actually on the rise, giving us a new-term of endearment for their later-life splits: grey divorce.

If we're laying blame, it's more a generational fault than it is a class of people.

The vast majority of white and black Americans actually like each other when we strip away all the awkwardness around the blame game/Democratic Party racial consciousness . All three clients I visit today will be black and the bridge between us is as solid as any bridge I have with my white clientele. Just humans doing human stuff, not competing adversarial racial groups with baked-in personality traits. The blame game/ external locus of control stuff is for losers.

Yea maybe in some things but not when it comes to getting a job in corporate America.

A buddy works in HR for a large multi national company. The requirements for a white male to get hired are the hardest. For example the GPA for a white male has to be a 3.75 or higher while for the same position it is a 3.0 for a female.
