I'm going to do the ole preface this with i'm fairly liberal as far as TD.com is concerned.

The answer is yes. She didn't knock over a bank. She didn't accidentally kill another human in a wreck after drinking or texting. She beat a kid to death. Her kid. A defenseless four year old. Anyone who knows that and gives her the time of day deserves to be ostracized also. This is worse than Baez suing the NE Patriots for CTE on behalf of Aaron Hernandez' kid.

If this was the father, the guy would die of old age in jail.

How many people are capable of doing what she did? Those people should not walk free much less be propped up as some liberal token of change.

I was confused after reading the quoted parts. The main reason being I couldn't figure out why Time would go to the defense of this woman. After clicking the link it all makes sense.

She's spent her time in jail, though I personally think it was less time than she deserved. Because that's some pretty heinous shite. But, she's been released. Should we completely ostracize her from society more that she's out?

I've never understood this. "Doing your time" just means the formal societal punishment has ended. It doesn't mean you should get a respectable job, or go to college, or be able to play in the NFL. It doesn't mean the rest of us have to pretend like you've wiped out whatever you did wrong.

A large segment of criminal justice reform has been hijacked by bullshite thinking like that.

Mostly we should forgive Jones because continuing to punish a woman for something heinous she did while a teenager will not help that woman’s murdered child in any way. It will not bring him back or make his life more precious. Nor will it help future Brandons. Jones is in a unprecedented position to shed light on some of America’s thorniest problems: How can we make prisons better? How can we break the generational cycle of incarceration? What can we do to help our most vulnerable kids and mothers?

There is a ton of faux outrage on this board, but this is something that should disgust us all.

First, she served less than 20 years of a 50 year sentence. Second, letting child murderers get a Ph.D. will CERTAINLY not help future disadvantaged children. She's getting a doctorate in American history, not performing outreach for disadvantaged and abused children. This is all about her, not her son.

Her backers saw her background as an asset, given the growing academic interest in incarceration

This quote from the NYT is especially disgusting. You can make a strong case that had she been some run of the mill history candidate, she wouldn't have been accepted at NYU in the first place. Being an murderer helped her cause. That is pathetic.

I'm more fascinated with the author's striking resemblance to Steve Zahn than the sheer absurdity of her article.

She's never told anyone where she buried the child to this day ? She shouldn't have been allowed to make parole until that detail was disclosed... Maybe the trauma inflicted upon his skull is way way worse than what's been disclosed... She killed a little boy and buried him in the woods like he was stray cat run over in the road... Taking a child murderer's word for truth is never a good practice.

Then there's the story of a murderer who is lucky to be out and to have been admitted to any institute other than the one she just came from.

What can we learn from her? How not to murder your child? How was it the prison was apparently so effective at reforming her murderous tendencies? Why shouldn't you be a douche mother and beat your daughter until her own child comes out mentally handicapped, putting your daughter into a position to feel she needs to murder the child?

All this and more tonight on, "Let's not make excuses for these kinds of people."

There's a special kind of hell for people like this.

Unfortunately liberals think that place is Harvard.

I mean a 4 year old is hardly a person at all, this is just a really really really late term "morning after" abortion.
