Collective public service only works when there is a cohesive, shared ethos and goal in a society. I'll leave it to you to guess whether or not that's what we have.

Guess your not a fan of Thomas Jefferson and support tyranny?
Also, I voluntarily served my country out of high school. But it should never be mandatory for one to have to serve.

I think it's the same in Korea too. Reality is we give people too many excuses from their obligations that you couldn't enforce it now. 80's maybe but not now.
It wouldn't be a draft but a standing mandate for all U.S. citizens to serve in some capacity for a one or two year period. You could probably link it with whatever trade school or higher learning that one might be trying to attain.
If you're in trade school to be an electrician or diesel mechanic you could get training and real world experience doing that for the military.
If you're studying chemistry in undergrad you could go into some R&D dept. in the military.
My brother got a really good job in Maintenance Management because of his training in the military. He was out of control, but is now settled with a wife and four kids and is raking. I tried for the military but got rejected. I had dozens of surgeries by the time I had tried to apply. I would not consider myself a SEP, though.

Nah, i don’t want half the people who volunteer serving. Can’t imagine how fricked it would be if we had to drag useless fricks into the military to serve.

Just wait until we have to reinstate the draft to defend Taiwan. Don't hold your breath that the youth of America is going to show up. You just think draft card burning was bad during Vietnam. They ain't dying defending a country that the US is ambiguous about in the first place
They showed up for Iraq and Afghanistan

This government isn’t worth fighting for.
Even with Pedo Joe running the country into the ground, it is still way better than any country that we would loose to in a war.

Yea after our country was attacked and our govt/media lied to everyone about Iraq wmd
But the trump cult would jump at the chance to go fight if their lord and savior told them to.

I haven't been here long but you make some awful posts. Next time you are about to submit a post, minimize the tab and wait 30min to think about if you really want to post this garbage.

In theory I would agree, but for this government? frick that. No one in the military is actually putting their life on the line to protect our freedoms. They are putting their life on the line for politicians best interest.
And after watching the movie The Report recently (based on a true story) it only made me feel must stronger about saying frick the government.
The CIA can pretty much get away with anything, the government gets around laws that are supposed to protect the citizens by hiring contractors.
Honestly, the US government pretty much does what it wants because it can. No one holds the government accountable. I don't care who is voted in office, once they are in, if they have self interest in doing something, all they have to do is find away to justify why it has to be done in order to get approval and then next thing you know, people's lives are being put on the line for some bullshite we have no business being involved in.
I'd agree with some 2 year program that everyone has to go into after graduating HS. During those two years they have to live without electronics, they learn skills everyone should learn. Something that makes kids tougher mentally and physically, etc.

The government definitely isn’t worth shite right now but it was much worse during the Vietnam war. Wouldn’t have to be military but just do something for Christ sakes.
Of course none of you children knows anything about history before you were born.

Everyone needs to be forced to serve in some capacity for two years just like in Israel.
Enough of this self entitled pussified bullshite and insanity
Slavery to the corrupt state is not the answer to ending the corruption.
See: (ironically, as you said) Israel

I agree to a limited degree. However, I would prefer we start by renaming the Department of Defense the Department of War!
Posted on 6/30/23 at 7:37 pm to TutHillTiger
We need to do NOTHING like Israel.

I don't think bringing back the draft is a good idea, but making every American experience boot camp should be mandatory and would add structure to many young people's lives.
I think everyone oughta have to go through boot camp once.
Wouldn't wish it twice for anyone.
