We have a hoarder in our neighborhood and people are fed up.

This is an older lady with some significant mental problems, obviously. She does not keep up her property.... Grass high as hell, vines growing all over the house, soffit and fascia hanging off from two hurricanes ago. She is addicted to Amazon or some shite, and boxes pile up on her porch. I've heard anecdotal evidence that the inside is like an episode of Hoarders.

It's a decent two story brick house on a golf course. Our HOA is not the strongest. Someone has hung legal notices on her door repeatedly, but nothing ever happens. I'm not sure suing her would accomplish anything.

Any ideas short of burning the house down?

I was about to say this is one of the few reasons taht HOAs are a good thing, but..

Our HOA is not the strongest.

Ummm..how could this happen WITH an hoa? Either she should already be fined to high heavens, or if the covenants don't allow for fining it will at least allow for a certain amount of notices before then being turned over to an attorney to force action.

you shouldn't and don't need to sue her. This is literally why the HOA exists. They're the ones you should be complaining to.

File complaints with the city instead of HOA as that goes beyond just being a little shabby and likely has a lot of code and safety issues.

That said, it’s not easy or quick in most cases

Be careful what you ask for, but force the HOA's hand and make them do something. Of course, once they get a taste of the power...

(1) Knock on her door and offer to fix her house

(2) Take legal action and if there is no legal action to be taken, ain't nothing you can do, so mind your own business

HOA is likely limited to sending bills which, depending on how things are, may be limited to putting a lien on the house.

As mentioned upthread, calling the city about code enforcement is more likely to be effective. The city may declare it a blighted property if it isn’t kept upz

How old?
Elderly services may need to get involved if she can’t care for herself
Someone could always visit with her & see if she needs help or find out if she has children that may need to get involved

Why hasn't the city taken action? They'll fine the heck out of you here after a warning.

Most cities have a hotline where you can call in complaints. Tall grass is considered a legitimate complaint.

For true hoarders, you actually have to follow through on the threats in your legal notices. Their obsession with keeping things is absolutely pathological and generally will change only through force (and then constant to semi-constant maintenance).

I'm not sure how old she is. She literally never comes outside. She used to have a Crown Victoria parked in the driveway but that has been gone for a while.
