The constant seismic rumblings were spotted by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), where seismometers on Mount Rainier have recorded three straight days of nearly nonstop, high-energy seismic signals across the west flank of the volcano.

Unlike the seismic activity tied to major earthquakes, the patterns being seen in Washington look more like a volcanic tremor, a type of nonstop hum or roar that begins when magma, hot water, and gas moves around inside a volcano.

It doesn't mean Mount Rainier is going to erupt at any moment, but it is a warning sign that volcanic activity could eventually build towards a critical level.

A lot at stake if it ever blows like St Helens.

Will they write a policy while the volcano is awake? Maybe between rumbling and idle?

Are you telling me that the melt in Oxford can be felt all the way in the Pacific Northwest?

Ranier erupting would be catastrophic. It’s on the decade volcano list as one of the top 16 most dangerous volcanoes if it ever erupts. It’s much larger than St Helens and it has a massive amount of glacial ice on it that would cause massive Lahars. It’s in close proximity to populated areas

However seeing a stratovolcano like that erupt, especially one that last erupted in 1450, would be something.

But if it were to happen based on the topography of the area around Mount Rainier this would be the path of destruction that the pyroclastic flow would follow.
That flow being lava, super heated gases that can travel at speeds over 100mph, and very angry mud and rock flows. Not a good time for those in the path.
In March of 1980 we learned to take these tremors and rumblings seriously.
