They also have front loader models. Are those recommended?

Speed queen washer for sure, bulletproof machine. I’m sure the dryer is good too but I don’t have one, only the washing machine. It’s 17-18 years old and still rolling. Worth every penny

ETA not the top of the line with the digital readout etc.. I’m talking old school manual knob that clicks when you turn it.

I bought basic Maytag washer and dryer 8 years ago. Dryier still going with no repairs. Washer still going with a few repairs. Repaired a couple of parts for about $85 total in parts. Plan is to get them to 10 or 15 years. Washer will likely go out first and that will be replaced with a Speed Queen when necessary. I would say get one with a tower agitator as the ones without that don’t seem to hold up as well on the agitator gear set up. Cleans better too. Also doesn’t bunch up sheets and large items as badly with a tower agitator.

My Kenmore w and d are 30 years old and still going! But I’m moving out of state next month and will get a new set for my condo. I have done lots of research on top and front loaders. Came down between Electrolux front loaders and Speed Queen. I’m going with Speed Queen TR7 and it’s dryer. 7 year warranty and built to last 25 years! That’s insane this day and age. And if you watch the speed queen videos, you can fit a lot of clothes in that tall tub. The newest model
Electrolux front loaders have good service record, but it’s hard to find reviews that show they last for more than about 4-5 years without a major repair or failure.
Speed Queen owners say they have great working machines for many years.

Have had a Speed Queen Washer since 2017 and a Speed Queen gas Dryer since 2021. Other than a minor issue on the washer that was covered under warranty, I've had no problems and have been completely satisfied

Pay the money and don't worry about needing a new one for the next 25+ years.

Agree speed queen basic model or cheap arse no frills Maytag. They have both outlasted the fricking 12000 LGs etc

Simple is better

Ha. I just bought a 10 year old machine from a friend’s mom who hasn’t even used it in 3 years. $100. It still works. If I get a year or 2, I’m good. It may well outlast the 5 year streak of the modern models. Both of my precious wagers died right of warranty at 3 to 5 years. I’ve been researching and everything has negative reviews. So I thought for now, why not for $100.

Speed queen is the popular answer. I couldn't afford them after the flood and went with the biggest but basic GE washer set. It has an agitator, and knobs you turn. It does have a few buttons for deep soaking and such, but it has held up with no issues.

This Kenmore 90 Series was made in 2000. 24 years of washing, two kids. It never slows down. Will repair it if it ever breaks.

Speed Queen is correct, but if you wuss out and get something else, make sure it is not HE (high efficiency). They barely wet your clothes and don’t clean worth a shite.

For sure this. I made that mistake and the washer was leaking after 5 years and the dryer lasted only about 2 years longer. Never again.

Buy once, cry once

I have Speed Queens, all manual controls, going on 4 years trouble free. I can load the hell outta them, get them to fill with a lotta water and the wash cycle is super fast. Have zero regrets.
