Actually, I'd bet even in a lot of rural/red areas they'd still arrest them. Cops don't want armed people willing to defend themselves.
When I moved out to my place in the middle of nowhere in 2001 I had a couple locals, probably more curious about who moved in than anything else, come prowling the 1st few nights.
When they pulled down one of the old cheapy gutter downspouts that was barely hanging on and drug it across the brick wall next to a living room window at about 2am I called the sheriff's office.
Anyway, the 2 deputies simply asked if if I had a gun in case the prowlers decided to come back. I told them I'd hate for them to have to tell someone's mother her baby boy ain't ever coming home again and they were outside anyway. They looked at each other, looked at me, said they appreciated that notification of kin thought but to do what I felt I had to.
They then got stuck in the mud, called one of the 4wd SUV units to pull them out which also got stuck, called a wrecker which also got stuck and while it wrapped a line around a tree to winch itself free another 4 units showed (they parked on the side of the road), finally about daybreak my childhood friend the actual Sheriff showed up. Everyone got free of the mud while Sheriff and I had coffee.

Haha, no it isn't. We're all sitting here posting comfortably from our homes, asses in seats, while they chip away at our freedoms. Once you realize what's actually happening, it'll be too late. It's pretty much already there.
