In the state of Texas, they legally must sell you the car for the advertised price listed, whether online or print. I was looking for a used car for my daughter and they tried adding on "reconditioning" fees. I told them that was illegal in Texas and they immediately stated that they always ask but would honor the online listed price.

Just had this in Texas earlier this year. Agreed on a price and drove two hours to finish everything.

Then they added $4000 in junk dealer options and was trying to give me $5500 less on my trade in.

I told them to frick off and drove back home. Slimy cocksuckers.

Car sales are literally a game of deception. They’re competing not just against competitors but against customers. just charge a standard price with a guaranteed profit margin and compete against competitors instead of customers. Everyone would be better off with clear, standard pricing like Tesla does

[I know someone that spent 9 hours at a dealer recently]

The only explanation for this is bad credit.

I work with a lot of dealer groups. There are a lot of reputable dealers out there. On the flip side, there are also some shady characters.

Well that's illegal, they can't charge you for a CPO if it was advertised that way.

It should be disclosed on either an addendum or the pencil/sales worksheet. Also, it should be disclosed online if there is an ADM.

said it was $3000 more if you paid that price in cash.

Charging more to use the fiat currency of this country should be a crime. We should all deal with a little inconvenience and as much as possible pay for our lives in cash. That is what truly returns power to people over inflation. Paying with credit artificially increases the money supply.

That's been my experience as well.

For the most part, it is just a transaction with a new car sale.

This is the first used car I've purchased since I was in college, and by far, I saw a lot more bs than on any new car deal I've done.
Carfax, while not always infallible, is a helluva tool.

And with VinCheck, you can get access to the Moroney data (factory build sheet).

You should get those dealer add on fees itemized before the fact too. You probably don't want to pay them then either.

I don't care how they cook their books. I know what I want to pay for the vehicle all in. They can call it price, fees, tax, rebates, whatever. It doesn't matter as long as I walk out with what I predetermined what was a fair price for the vehicle.

And keeps the economy pumping. If everyone paid in cash only the economy would likely crash in the short term. Long term it would be great because consumer debt is out of control.
