Time to end their little fiefdoms. Allow direct to consumer sales.

And force them to stop designing it where only dealerships can work on them because only dealerships can have the special tools and software

Sir, what will it take for you to purchase this vehicle today?" I paid the price I wanted and got a free spray in bedliner out of the deal.

When I was buying my wife’s current car we were ok with but not super impressed with what we were willing to spend after 3 stops. As we were walking out the lot manager stopped us and said “You’re just going to go to another lot and be disappointed. What do I need to get something down to to not make you go to another place and happy with something here?”

Told him what we wanted and he found one that was a bit out of our range and knocked it down to where we were happy.

Was impressed with the tactic.

Last fall bought my kid a new Kia.

We had what we wanted in mind. Told salesman we wanted a certain car with certain trim line they had on their website. We would test drive it and if we like it I’ll pay the advertised price as I did think it was a good deal.

Of course, that car was nowhere on the lot, but they had next highest trim line for 1500 more.

I said sell me the higher trim line at lower trim line price and this will be the easiest sale you make this month. If you can’t, I understand completely, I’ll drive 30 min to another dealer that has it and I’ll get it there.

15 min later… he sold it for the lower trim price.
