Also, I don't drink to get fricking wasted. I drink just because I like to drink. Don't need a drink to have a good time, I choose to drink because I want to drink. Not because I feel like I have to.

Learning to control your drinking and not get loaded is what seperates us from the animals

Drink a bit, get a little loopy, stop. Then Drink water and try not to eat a bunch of shitty food. Then be one of the first to excuse yourself from your function and go to bed. Get 8 hours of sleep and feel great.

I bet it was because he called it a drug. But he was correct. It is a drug.

It'll be just fine not drinking. Find other things to keep you occupied. If 6 months from now you want a cold one just get a 6 pack and stop there.

I drink about 3 to 4 beers almost everyday. Does that consider me an alcoholic?

Is your life unmanageable because of alcohol? Do you have to lie, steal, and cheat in order to drink your beer? Does your beer take priority over everything else? Do you obsess over your beer? Are you able to stop after just 3 or 4?

I'd call that an unhealthy habit at best.

been alcohol sober since the new years resolution. I admit I took a week off from the resolution for vacation sake, but ever since then haven't drank it.

definitely feel 100% better in the mornings and it even helped shed off some weight. now my only problem is keeping the munchies off from the alcohol replacement

Anyone can learn moderation

No. I've known two really bad alcoholics. Both are dead. Moderation was just not possible for them.

I'm not really a fan of 12 step programs either but they probably extended the life of one or both of them some, maybe a year or two.

The odds of survival for a serious alcoholic are pretty poor, regardless of treatment method.

If you don't mind me asking, what made them really bad? Was it missing work, health issues, mistreating friends and family?

Government is getting bigger. Cops and whites are all racists. ISIS is not a true threat. Go back to drinking.

My guess is all three.

My suggestion for what it's worth...

...If you don't have a problem with alcohol, but just want to cut back - only drink really good, high-priced beer or wine. The cost and weight of the drink itself will limit you from going to heavy and the hangover will be less. Avoid liquor at all costs cause it can snowball quickly if you drink fast like me. Set an alarm on your phone for 10-10:30pm and make every effort to stop drinking alcohol at the set time and start drinking water or a substitute. I find the lime flavored soda water to fill the void, but you should experiment with what non-alcoholic drinks you enjoy.

...if you do have a problem verbalize it to your friends and family and tell them up-front your goals of quitting. Find a program that is safe and works for you.

good luck

What if said person also works out 4-5 times a week and eats healthy and never misses work and as a clean bill of health from the Dr?

I quit drinking earlier this year. Was always more of a social drinker anyway, but getting older, the hangovers sucked arse and I just didn't like that drunk feeling. I have no issues with it.
