There are some people who are affected by alcohol very differently than the rest of the population. Drinking in moderation really isn't an option, and stopping isn't just a matter of putting down the booze.

My problem wasn't that I was tired of drinking. I was just constantly getting shitfaced. I found out my limits and don't go past them. Aka, if I am drinking whiskey, I'm at my house, preferably with no one I'm trying to impress. Or at my hunting camp, where I know for a fact I'm not trying to impress those drunk dumbasses.

Also, I don't drink to get fricking wasted. I drink just because I like to drink. Don't need a drink to have a good time, I choose to drink because I want to drink. Not because I feel like I have to.

You should attend an AA meeting. I'm not a big fan of the 12 steps but just going to a meeting and listening to other people's stories will have a huge impact on you. Being around people wanting to be sober, even if it's just an hour, will have a positive effect on you. Worse case scenario, you get free coffee and hear some crazy stories.

Get a girl you like who doesn't drink and throws the pussy at you 24/7 and you won't even miss it for a second. If you are with a girl who drinks or you are single good fricking luck!

I can't drink in moderation. I go weeks without drinking, but then I buy a fifth and drink it all. My advice to the OP is stop while you think you still can.

Depending on how much you've been drinking, you need to be careful about going cold turkey. Alcohol is one of those drugs that can be dangerous to withdraw from.

That's an absolute rog. Been there still doing that.

Seizures, are one of the many horrific things you have to look forward to. It sucks, and I have been through it.

Don't know why this post was downvoted 10 times. I had good friend that tried to quit cold and he was having seizures etc. He was really really bad off. If you drink that heavily you need medical help (like in a hospital with medicine and vitals being monitored etc) or you could stroke and/or die. He never could kick it and he died in his sleep in mid 30's.

Holy shite there are some alcoholics on this thread. I drink probably five nights a week, but only a beer or a glass of wine or two. Hit a few more on the weekend. Man, you guys have no self control. Just switch to water before becoming passed out drunk or start nursing your last drink. Learn where your line in the sand is. No big deal.

I get what you're saying because that's how I handle my drinking, but acting like your solution is the answer to EVERYONE'S problems isn't right or fair

Asking an alcoholic to practice self control in drinking as a means of solution is like asking a toddler to sit still inside a toy store.

The good news is that litterally every other drug is better than alcohol sans meth. Weed, LSD, mushrooms, dmt, pain pills, xanax etc.

You don't have a drug problem, you're just doing the wrong drug! Alcohol is deppressing, dirty, and makes you feel like shite. Go out and have some real fun, you'll wonder why you ever drank in the first place

I can tell you from experience. All these internet therapist aren't going to help you. I tried for years to kick it, lied to myself like lots of posters on this topic that I didn't have a problem. When you finally hit bottom you will know it, some people just have a longer rope. My life is better in every way. Still do the same things just don't have to worry about what I tore up, lost, or who I pissed off anymore. If you have kids it's amazing how much more they will love you, they see it, I promise.

Start working out and counting calories, you will see how alcohol wrecks your body.

I worked out for 1 hr 45 min yesterday then had 6 beers last night and wiped my entire calorie burn out.

I usually only drink on the weekends but was off today

I've kind of slowly cut back over the past few years. Tolerance seems to drop as I've cut back. Down to about 15ish beers per week. I actually do most drinking during weekdays because I don't have time to feel bad on days off.

I tell you this. You sound like me pre-kids. Weekend went by in a blur just partying. Always had hobbies I wanted to do and didn't do them due to partying. Not saying kids is the answer but you certainly need to curve drinking as your "hobby".

Running and/or fitness are good options. Get involved in those running clubs. Hell join a crossfit cult. Just do something that's social and keeps you engaged. Maybe not stop drinking forever but perhaps take 6 months to a year off in order to develop an addiction to something less unhealthy. I stopped for a year and started back just to abandon the drunk n party lifestyle.

I watched the the Saints Super Bowl sober after quitting drinking. I stopped the year before that season. I haven't been perfect. If you really have a problem the urge will pop up from time to time but less often as time goes by. If you slip, realize you're human and get back on track. For me AA was shite, for some it's needed.
