I'm in the middle of quitting now.

I went through a particularly rough break up back around July, found myself drinking 4-5 nights a week. Not just having a drink or beer after work, but getting hammered drunk.

Hit me about a month ago that isn't me and it isn't what I want to be doing.

It's been harder than I expected. Especially during football season.

I've never had a problem with alcohol before, but it was quickly heading in that direction.

Over all I feel better and having that extra money in my pocket is nice.

I quit doing the things that made me drink. The gang at my old hangout is gone (for many reasons) and I gave up my football tix a few years ago (for reasons not related to drink). After six months, I realized I wasn't missing the drink.

ETA: I've been sober 2-3 years now.

Boring and dull AF.

1 hour seems like 6.

Do not advise.

I quit drinking and smoking on the same freaking day about 9 years ago. I do not advise anyone to do that.

But the cravings will eventually pass.

I quit both on the same day, it sucked for a week or so. I checked myself in for medical care until I dried out. The first few night of being sober are horrifying.

I quit 4 years ago. Tried drinking again 6 months ago and realized why I quit. Life if fine without drinking. People who say otherwise are idiots. I go out all the time with my friends and they all drink a good bit. If you think people are going to notice you are not drinking, they won't. Once I got over the fact that no one notices or care it was smooth sailing. Good luck

I wanted to quit, went to AA, best thing I have ever done. I am the happiest I have ever been. I couldn't quit on my own, I had to learn a new way to live my life and tap into a power to help me. I am grateful for finding AA and a lot of other people are too!

If you feel like shite the next day you haven't been drinking enough... nor long enough.

In other words, GFY.

You can quit but you have to quit because YOU want to. You won't quit because someone else wants you to. I quit cold turkey. It's been 18 years now. I don't miss it one bit. Makes others uncomfortable at social functions sometimes. Hey, it works for me.

Sobriety is worth it but do it for yourself.

drinking is not about getting blitzed! You're doing it wrong, drink because you enjoy it, not to get drunk. comes with age.

I'll quit when pot is legal..

On a more serious side.. I've quit before and may again soon.. If it's not a dependency issue then it won't be more than a short term in convienance, you will feel better and eventually fall back into drinking a little here and there.. I currently booze 3-4 days a week and 2 of those days are heavy during football season.. August through Mardi Gras is my wet period but I dry up in the spring and early summer..

Why not have a drink or two and then stop?

If you cannot do that you have a problem and should give it up

OP, no clue how you old you are, but I recently quit drinking, somewhat and I'm 26......

It's been more than a month, creeping up on two months now since I've drank in excess and it honestly didn't start as any challenge or anything. Nothing came up socially where I felt pressured to drink a lot.

I didn't stop drinking completely, I did have one beer at a Dallas Cowboys game and another beer at a Dallas Stars game, but it was one on each occasion and no more.

I've just for someone reason not really craved it.

I wish I could give you some advice, but all I can say is don't surround yourself with others who take part in vices you don't want to partake in. My girlfriend hasn't really cared, but all of my actual bros live an hour or so away from me so that made it easier on myself.

The health benefits have been substantial as well. I haven't been eating fast food late at night or had alcohol in my system and with that alone and a very non-strict workout schedule I've lost 22-pounds in 50 days.
