I’m sure insurance companies will be lining up to approve this!

The good news is Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Elon Musk and some Saudi princes will be able to afford this drug should they get the disease.
Isn’t good to know there are people who can afford it?

About a hundred and some odd years late for Tzar Nikolas, but he could have afforded it

So your kid is born with this awful disease and you know there is a drug that gives them a chance and yet it will cost 3.5 million. That's a tough pill to swallow.

With a savings card it will be $10. Funny how that works.

That's the societal value part in their statement. If you don't pay up, then obviously you don't value your kid as much as the next guy. These drug companies are out to help at minimal profit margins.

Pharmaceutical companies are pretty greedy/shitty, I agree, but some of y'all are missing what's right in front of you.

Terrible disease, but extremely rare.

Small market for the drug...very few sales.

Research and Development costs were undoubtedly very high.

Of course it's expensive. I'm surprised they developed it at all.

the cost is cheaper than putting someone on a life time of factor replacement.

These threads are the equivalent to the normal hospital bill threads showing people owe 100s of thousands.

Yeah with it afflicting only 40 kids, they probably have to charge a lot to recoup the R&D costs.

It sucks but it sounds like it has to be this way unless we figure out a way to socialize the costs of R&D for drugs that treat rare diseases without making a giant mess. I doubt that’s possible.

If they were smart they would say side effects include making your dick 1 inch longer. Half the country would buy it.

Unless they can't afford it.

It’s not really this. As part of our pricing, the US population pays for all of the R&D that goes into these drug. Most other countries just pay for the actual cost of the production/mamufacturing. It’s why our drugs are crazy expensive compared to say, the same exact drug in Europe.

We are also the ones that the “clinical studies” are tested on.

Basically we have become the world’s lab rats.

Some people claim to love capitalism but don’t think pharmaceutical companies should get to participate.

I don’t know that it’s the case here but I resent the fact that the US population generally pays the inflated costs to cover R&D while the rest of the world pays significantly less. Spread the load.

If my kid gets this disease, I will find a way to break into the pharmacy to steal this pill before I write them a check for $4,250,000.00
