I saw this at a walmart in colorado recently. The self checkout was for premium members only. Also, they didn't have plastic grocery bags at all. The cashier told me that they used to charge 10 cents per bag but recently stopped offering them completely.

I would think that everybody walking out without bagged merchandise would make it even harder to keep shop lifting in check.

Might be another case of cost savings not being worth it

Walmart+ costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year and offers free delivery services

Free delivery for $98 per year.

Some words have no meaning.

The neighborhood walmart closest to me has gone to this. Literally removed all manned checkouts, and I refuse to shop there if I have to get a bunch.

I love self checkout so I don't have to talk to people. The only fown side is people with 50 items or they cannot figure out to do it efficiently

Glad I stopped going to all Walmart stores a year ago. One of their stock boys would not pull up their pants and management didn’t care to do anything about it.

Obviously, it's not "free" if you are paying per month. However, I get a credit each month for every payment on my AMEX for some reason, so for me, it's free.

Except they aren't free. The costs from your and Cody's shoplifting get passed back to the rest of us.
The costs would have gone up anyway. I use tried and true methods to combat inflation. But if you feel you are paying for my malfeasance, then thank you sir. My family appreciates you. If ever we meet, I’ll give you a soda pop, I get them buy 1 get 3 free.

More likely we need to foot the bill for all the shoplifting for the Self Checkout theft that is occurring in New Orleans.
The self checkout is closed at the Tchoupitoulas location for that reason.

I feel sorry for your family. Your children deserve a better role model.

If enough people would fill a basket with stuff, hit the checker checks you line and shout, "You need more checkers." and walk away from their full basket, then Walmart would fix the problem. They have to pay someone to put that stuff back on a shelf, or toss it in the trash, which they aren't going to do.

Want to get their attention? Start shouting "Manager needed at checkout number ---." Then when the manager shows up, tell them what the problem is and walk away from your full basket. Tell them you have a doctor's appointment or are going to throw up if they say anything.

I work 3 miles from a walmart. Placed an order last wednesday. From clicking submit on 30 items to a brother calling me saying he was parked by my truck... 12 minutes.

Unless you bought 30 pieces of 1 SKU, this is total bullcock.

3 miles - let's assume at a very minimum, in perfect conditions, 5 minutes travel time... unless of course it's all highway miles with no stops, red lights or turns. I haven't seen neighborhoods that connect directly to walmarts via the Interstate.

In the remaining 7 minutes, your guy received the order, shopped the order, got to his car and exited the parking lot.

At 30 items, That's 14 seconds per item pulled.

A good score for an Amazon warehouse order selector is 100 line items per hour (with batch order pulling efficiency). 1.66 item per minute. Your guy did 4.28 items per minute. And then delivered it in 5 minutes. And then repeated it the next day.

I'm calling shenanigans.

TINSTAAFL. Hey, geniuses, why can you buy unlimited movies per day for $20 a month? Because they know you're going to drop $15 for popcorn and food every time, and you will see movies you otherwise wouldn't (and spend money on food and bev) because the movie is "free."

It's conceivable he got that SLA once or twice, but my closest Wal-Mart is open to 11PM, and the next available pickup time is tomorrow. Same for H-E-B. That's for a single item for pickup.

I do love the math, which is why as a consultant, I shy away from unverified hard numbers to avoid the sharp shooting

If they do this that’ll end my shopping at wal mart. It always sucks because they’ll have 2 lanes open maybe so while the self checkout line will be 10 people it at least moves fast. This will ensure now that the 2 open lanes will be miserable long and I’m not paying to use self checkout. I’ll go back to shopping at SuperValu in Belzoni

If you shop at Albertsons, Winn Dixie, etc, you're not paying a Walmart service fee, but you've been getting railed for decades on prices for product.
