May have already been posted but this is from the comments.

What they don't tell you is that $90K salary is for drivers who own their own truck. A $100K truck at that. And you're pulling Walmart trailers. And that you have to drive 200 miles without a trailer, without pay, on your own time and gas, to pick up the next trailer to go somewhere else. Sounds great on paper but when your expenses equate to $40K of that $90K, it ain't so great.

Good for them, but I couldn't deal with traffic and city drivers once you get close to large cities. My blood pressure would go sky high.
Most of the young drivers I know would rather spend more time at home, so they have been doing hotshot loads, or working locally/regionally for places like FedEx. None want to be OTR drivers

What’s that like 15 bucks an hour for them after taxes?
Whatever it comes to, it's more money than what most college grads make. All the while, said college grad will look down their nose at the truck driver.
Same thing with 2 year trade school PTEC degree Plant Operators making way more than what most 4 year degree college grads are making. Not to mention, a much better benefit package also.
But, go ahead, college grads...keep forking out the tuition money.
For the record, I'm a college grad with a 2 year PTEC also. My four year degree has done nothing for me, but my PTEC degree has opened doors, whereas my BSBA paper has served as only office decor.

They have captains in the GOM/Mississippi River without high school diplomas that are more skilled at their job than guys with grad degrees in marine transportation.
I have a master's degree in the subject matter and I can't drive a boat half as good as some of these toothless guys that started working on shrimp boats when they were about 7 years old. I can do the paperwork though so I guess it all balances out.

So you are using anecdotal evidence. Gotcha.

Yeah that’s not true. Wal Mart owns all of its fleet and all drivers are full time positions. They don’t use independent trucks.

No, I'm using evidence of not being able to get interviews with just a bachelor's degree by major oil and gas companies. In my last semester of PTEC school I landed a PTEC internship and that ultimately landed me a gig in the field that I had been trying to get into for over a year with just my bachelor's. I also had other offers due to my PTEC completion.
My bachelor's degree didn't do shite for me.

College is about education, not job training. What’s BSBA?
Congrats on the votec degree and shift work, I guess.

What did you study in undergrad?

Nothing wrong with being a truck driver. That’s how all our shite that we buy get anywhere. My only problem is that you mostly have to own your own rig, and that’s very expensive.

Do you understand what anecdotal evidence is?
I had a job lined up making more than what you stated before I walked across the stage with my BSEE. I can't use my example and make a blanket statement. That's anecdotal evidence...

Who the hell wants to spend their life in a cab of a truck?

Well, maybe don't get some generic business admin degree next time. Sorry you couldn't hack a PetE degree or similar to make the actual big bucks in o&g.

Can you buy a rig using a small business loan from SBA? Most tractors last 1M+ miles. It would seem to me to be a very good opportunity to become a shipping entrepreneur

Then that would put Walmart literally at the very bottom of what companies pay owner/operators...it's hard to believe walmart transportation would take on owner/operators
