Went to a 5 Star Steakhouse. I’m usually very courteous and tip well. We sat down and ordered a bottle of wine and appetizer. 20 minutes go by before we get the wine and the waiter is short with us and just looks like he’s having a bad night.

Order our main dish......

We sat down at 7:30 and it is now 9:15. We are finished with the wine and still no steak or sign of the waiter. I say f*** it and go to find the hostess who isn’t there so we just walk out.

I feel bad about stiffing today. Is there an appropriate way to make it right? I don’t want any freebies as I won’t go there again.

Could have just asked for the bill before you left and paid for the wine only?

Bad service does not equate to theft. Going back and paying for what you consumed would be a class move. I bet the manager would even comp you something.

I mean....yeah.

I would have refused to pay for the meal even if they brought the steak out straightaway but not paying for the wine and apps were theft.

You are making it sound like the place was completely deserted and you literally couldn’t find anyone.

What it probably was you being so pissed you half assed the search and stormed out.

Should have paid for what you consumed, but you’re probably justified in what you did.

at a bare minimum you knew how much the wine was, you should have left cash on the table or gone to the bar and paid for it. You ordered it and you drank it and then you stole it

no excuse for that ever

Hard to blame you there. If you sat down at 7:30, say get your wine/app by 8 and have your main order placed. 45-an hour is about when I'd start to get antsy asking if it was coming out soon. An hour and a half is outrageous for any order of food to come out.

Probably would have left some cash on the table for the wine, because like others have pointed they could technically report dine and dash and only give their side of the story.

Was it Sullivan’s? Because they were pretty bad for us on Friday. We made 7:30 reservations but could of simply walked in.

Slow service. Male waiter was a bit of a dick.

I was amazed at how empty the place was for a Friday night. Ringside wasn’t even open

Yes you are in the wrong. Surely there was a bartender there that you could have gone and paid.

Go back today and pay it. Tell the manager exactly what happened and you could not find anyone to pay, and you would like to pay for what you consumed.

Hard to believe at a 5 star restaurant you waited that long. I believe that's what one of those stars is for. I wouldn't of walked out, but would of paid for my wine and walked out, unless they ponied up with some kind of comp.

Did you ask to speak to the manager at any time?
Can't just get up and leave after consuming a bottle of wine.
