I imagine some marketing wonk somewhere has data about the target demographic shying away from the product because they didn't feel like it was "for them".

You're probably right. I'd also, if I was consulting in this situation, advise management to take data like that with a grain of salt.

You will hardly ever get an attractive person to say, "I can't relate with the ugly model." That's just too obnoxious for someone to say outside of private conversation, and there's really no way to word it that comes across well.

People are willing to say, "I can't relate to the too attractive model," because it's still complimentary of the model and self-deprecating.

Considering women of all sorts but these products, that's a pretty stupid instruction from upper management.

Back in the 1990s and early 2000s - VS did not sell larger sizes, it was even difficult to find a bra with cupsize DD or larger

What would you guess the average woman who buys those products looks like?

VS was the absolute crown jewel of advertising 15-25 years ago. Their revenue and market share followed suit. It’s now on life support

I dislike tattoos more than I do a few extra pounds.

To be clear. A few extra pounds is the cute chubby look. Not the whales that these progressive hacks try to parade around as “beautiful”.

Average weight well over 200 pounds. Most had distasteful tattoos as well.

That’s closer to your average American woman.

Being overweight is a comorbidity for covid but let’s just go ahead and celebrate it rather than try and get people to be healthier. #maskup /s

The average woman buys plus size panties at WalMart. Much cheaper.

I am chunky and old and those granny panties and droopy bras are not attractive at all.

No they weren’t, they have been on a downward trend well before. They have a lot of competition online and other places for changing tastes. Pandemic was a gut punch on how much they were struggling already. They stuck to what they did for awhile and it isn’t working as well anymore, so they went with a less sex appeal model.

Yep. I had hoped that their rebranding would focus more on comfort like "true" brand. I get that there are more obese people in the US and its a lucrative demographic but I think they missed the mark. I sold all my shares.

I’ll help, here’s one sporting the latest fishnets. They had others, but the OT gang is arse-centric.
