Should be tiered.

30 full
28 80
26 60
24 40
22 20

Drop the 24 and 22 over the next 5 years.

3.0 freshmen.

2.75 after to maintain.

4.0 freshman and sophomore to bump up a tier for junior and senior.

People with 30 on the ACT are likely getting a full ride

I got a 30 and I didn't get a full ride to LSU. Just full TOPS (which I lost freshman year by being a freshman idiot )

Then you'd be bumping a bunch of people getting useless degrees.

Might as well get rid of TOPS if you make those changes. Poor people and people with 30+ ACT scores already get free tuition most of the time.

The way it is now, they might as well make college free, like public K-12.

That's too high. 25% score 24 or more.

They could have at least increased the GPA requirement to 3.0. Bumping the ACT to 30 is ridiculous though.
30 is too high but the problem with GPA is they don't necessarily carry the same validity from one school to another. Hell even from one teacher to another.

If you score lower than a 24, you shouldn't go to college.

Yeah but it's a better measure of longevity vs a one day test, or one that you can take 30 times to bump your scores up

I know many feel like that but I don't. He earned it for the semester(s) he received it. When he no longer earned it, it no longer existed.

Couple that with the fact that TOPS basically grants the poor inner city kids the chance to go to college for free, and few legislators are gonna vote for that.

If poor kids wanted to go to college bad enough they'd learn how to catch a football

I think I took it twice in 11th. Made exact same score. Was hung over both times, and 24 was good enough to do what I needed to do. I wasn't thinking about needing to come to the OT to brag one day

Yeah. I scored high enough to go to lsu. Which was the only college I applied to. So why waste my time, money, and Saturday to take a test I already "passed"?

Lost tops my first year and still graduated with zero student loan debt

There are enough need based scholarships. TOPS was intended to keep the best and brightest in the state. Then it became free college for everybody to go party and flunk out. Then when you try to walk it back to the best and brightest it becomes racist, so now it becomes a need based scholarship.

Typical Louisiana. Somebody comes up with a good idea for the state, then everybody wants to get a peace of it so it ends up being welfare and not affordable. But we do it anyway.
