"Future TOPS students would have to earn 2.75 GPA, not 2.5, under bill approved by House Ed. Vote was 9-3. To full House.HB 117.#lalege

Current qualification for TOPS is ridiculous. If you don't have the current qualifications, you shouldn't even be on a college campus.

People with 30 on the ACT are likely getting a full ride (or close) somewhere without needing 100% of TOPS.
Couple that with the fact that TOPS basically grants the poor inner city kids the chance to go to college for free, and few legislators are gonna vote for that.

There are other needs based scholarships. TOPS should be 100% merit based imo

They could have at least increased the GPA requirement to 3.0. Bumping the ACT to 30 is ridiculous though.

It sounds like they went for 3.0 but settled at 2.75

Might as well get rid of TOPS if you make those changes. Poor people and people with 30+ ACT scores already get free tuition most of the time.
