I remember that movie. Except the writers failed at geography because Krakatoa is west of Java.

Nah. This is related to the Grand Solar Minimum allowing strange cosmic radiation to miss being blocked by the sun’s magnetic field.
The rays are hitting Earth and exciting the Earth’s core during a rare planetary alignment to trigger the volcanoes, already under increased pressures from Earth molten core expansion stress.

The big 2004 tsunami was around Christmas too.

Tunguska says you might (again) be factually incorrect in a statement posted here.
Except what he said is backed up by actual science. The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa was heard thousands of miles away. People as far away as 40 miles had their ear drums ruptured by the sound of it. The shockwave from the eruption was still being picked up by instruments five days later.

I remember how the death toll just kept climbing. First it was an eye popping 1,000 then it just kept climbing. 200 something thousand if IIRC.

The shockwave was recorded going around the earth 3.5 times.

According to Wiki, it was 13,000 times the yield of the Hiroshima atom bomb.

Edison phonograph 1887.
I'm doubting the dutch had recording devices ready prior to volcano blowing.

Never let the facts get in the way of an agenda.

impressive anecdotal evidence.
Unfortunately for historical accuracy the dramatic event as portrayed in movies left out the ear drum business.
In the movie a dutch guy representing we nonbrowns is seen racing up a hill to escape the coming wave. No one in the movie has hearing issues.
Its not even all that loud.

video of volcano erupting
Anak Krakatoa means child of Krakatoa. The original Krakatoa collapsed into a massive undersea crater. What you see there has grown since 1883.

From the log of Captain Sampson of the British ship Norham Castle on August 27, 1883:
quote:
A fearful explosion...A frightful sound...I am writing this blind in pitch darkness...So violent are the explosions that the eardrums of over half my crew have been shattered. My last thoughts are with my dear wife. I am convinced that the Day of Judgment has come.
