I went to the inner harbor once during the morning to day and I was hit up by no less than three druggie bums asking me for money. One of whom looked like he wanted to fight me when I politely declined giving him anything. Rerouted on our way out of town due to a race downtown. Saw a guy passed out or maybe dead in a wheelchair at a bus stop. He was a white guy that had turned yellow. Saw a truck flipped over in the middle of the street surrounded by cop cars presumably following a high speed chase. Saw rows of those old ababdoned townhouses that looked like they had GPS guided bombs dropped on them. One visit to Baltimore was enough for me.

Annapolis really is a New England (Puritan) town though

John Wilkes booth was from Maryland and the state song until recently called Lincoln a tyrant and was pretty much dedicated to how Maryland should have been allowed to secede with her sister Virginia.

They are southern as far as I’m concerned.

But apparently Annapolis was settled by puritans that left Virginia when it became an Anglican state that didn’t allow others. And it makes sense with how Annapolis is today, politically.

I have friends who now live in York Pennsylvania and commute to jobs in Maryland.
They tried the "let's live in the inner city" route. One day we sat around swapping stories: Baltimore v. NOLA. More similarities than we would have guessed.

Southern Maryland is still largely southern in culture I believe, as well as Catholic, which is cool imo.

Seems like many of the white people around the state are arguably even more racist than white people in Louisiana. But I guess Baltimore, DC, and Annapolis make it so it is one of the most liberal states in the country.

Western Maryland is also Catholic and “southern culture” although maybe more of an Appalachian sort of feel.

They also have one of the coolest flags in the country.

I went to the Edgar Allen Poe cemetery and it’s a 3rd world neighborhood.

Great hole in the wall crab cake joints. Like NOLA tho. Great to visit. Terrible to live.

Baltimore has changed a lot. It’s a great place to visit and they did a good job of figuring out how to clean it up.

I lived in Frederick County for over 20 years and my oldest daughter lives in Baltimore, she's in an unusual neighborhood as it's majority white.

Used to drill with the old 2122d Garrison over on Liberty Road, the neighborhood around the reserve center had certainly seen better days.

Baltimore has the same sort of problems as NOLA except IMO NOLA public schools are better (hard to believe, but true).

Inner Harbor and Camden Yards are really nice areas.

Camden Yard is great, Inner Harbor is nice but touristy, and the Canton neighborhood has some nice restaurants and bars, and is my personal favorite part of Baltimore. Fells point used to be a lot of fun, but don't know how it is now. Overall, not a big fan of the city, but if I'm going, it's to one of the above areas.

Been there several times. The Inner Harbor is pretty neat, but don't stray too far. Turns into The Wire very quickly. Fort McHenry is nice too and the whole state is into seafood and the Chesapeake. They do eat a lot of crabs from the Gulf, because they are crab crazy and the Chesapeake can't satisfy them. It does provide some good oysters and the Eastern Shore looks a lot like southern Louisiana (in the summer).

It was a Catholic colony and there are still a lot of Catholics there. Mostly it's dominated by Baltimore and outflow from DC, which runs all the way to Frederick county. There is some beautiful and rich farm land, but they are in a hurry to plant houses.

The state motto is: If you can dream it, we can tax it.

I live in Baltimore county, north of the city. Worked in the city for several years. Baltimore should be a shining jewel of a city. It's on the water, has a relatively mild four season mid-atlantic climate, is an hour from DC, two and a half from New York, is surrounded by rolling hills, horse country, an hour from the Eastern Shore, has awesome history, amazing buildings downtown with incredible architecture. I've lived all over the US and I like the people here better than any other place I've lived other than SW Louisiana, where I grew up. It's a tragedy Baltimore isn't the city it could be.

Broadway Market

One of my favorite things to do in Baltimore before a game. Really great seafood there. Lots of opportunities to try different things.

In Camden Yards you gotta get out to Boogs Bbq and get the pit beef sandwich. Congratulate Boog on his AL MVP and his home run record at Key West High School. Boog is there all the time.

I hear the aquarium is good. Can anyone confirm? I might be hitting Camden Yards in August and the wife likes aquariums. Is it in Inner Harbor?

The places tourists go aren't bad and Camden is pretty cool.
