Phil gone public with anything yet?

Man, Phil... the guy’s voice and stage presence were perfect for that band and it wouldn’t have been Pantera without him, but jeeez he’s a terrible and annoying dumbass of a person. It’s sucks to have to dislike the lead singer of one of my favorite bands.

Some people in this thread are assholes. No one knows how he died. It could have been drugs, suicide... Or some type of health issue (which might be likely caused by drugs), but to bitch because someone said the death of him is sad, because of the life he lived.. That's just dumb.

10:00 AM PT -- Vinnie's family tells TMZ ... he died in his sleep at his home in Las Vegas. His body's been turned over to the medical examiner to determine a cause of death, and after that he'll be flown back to his home state of Texas to be buried between his mom and brother.

Vinnie was a great drummer.

I think people are saying this now because he just died but he really wasn't good at all. He had a unique style in that he just hit the drums as hard as he could. Dave Mustaine once asked Dimebag to join Megadeth and Dime said only if Vinnie could come. Dave said no. Its a testament to the rest of the band's skills that they made Vinnie's sound work with the music.

Has he gotten any better as a person since back surgery and getting off the hard stuff (assuming that’s still true)?

If I remember correctly, the root of that animosity doesn’t just come from how Pantera ended, but in subsequent interviews by Phil afterwards where he basically said he wished Dime was dead or had wished someone would kill him... it wasn’t very long after the interview, a few months maybe?? and that nut job killed him. I have zero doubts in my mind that that was the reason Vinny wanted absolutely nothing to do with Phil.

That’s exactly why. Vinnie thought that Phil coming out and trashing on Dime and Vinnie for Damageplan was what got Dime killed. Phil held a grudge and would tell anyone that would listen that damageplan is what broke up pantera and it was always assumed the dude that shot them was a disgruntled pantera fan thinking he was doing what Phil wanted.

I heard thane story about the Stanley Cup being dented at the after at VP’s house. I once delivered a case of Jagermeister to his house in E. Dallas when was a rep way back when. Of course a few stripper looking broads answered the door to receive the delivery(I sssume employees from the Clubhouse) so never got to meet VP.

Not really. It came out right when it happened that Nathan Gale was fricked in the head and pretty disturbed. He was a fricking nut job.

Vinnie was not all that bad. He fit Pantera just fine. What I always liked about him was the tone of his kick drums. He had that down pat.

The more I see and hear Darrell, the more I'm certain he's a little overrated. He's damn good at certain things, but not nearly as good as the myth around him now.

We aren’t going to agree on the ability of either one so I’ll leave it at that.

I’m going to guess central sleep apnea due to drugs. Same way Pimp C died.

Damn, he used to always come to my hotel a few years back when we had a certain rock show residency. First time I met him I had no idea who he was. Seemed like a pretty good dude.

I'm guessing you work at the Hard Rock, during the KISS residency.

This is true. I remember reading an interview with this guy talking about how Gale had been trying to join his band, but he would always bring in lyrics he claimed he had written when in truth they were just lyrics he had lifted from Pantera songs. The guy went on to say that he believed he held some sort of grudge against the members of Pantera because he believed they were stealing his music. You tie that in with Phil giving interviews wishing for Dime's death or wishing someone would kill him, and you pretty much understand why Vinnie never forgave Phil. He wasn't just barred from Dime's funeral because of animosity over the breakup, the Abbot family placed a massive amount of blame for Dime's death on Phil because they believed Nathan Gale read the interview and acted on it.

Eat the largest dick you can find.

There are a few drummers that can hold Vinnie’s jock when it comes to metal/ rock.

1) Danny Carey
2) Neil Peart
3) John Bonham

So, hold your mouth for the war. Use it for what it’s for!

Speak the truth about the band that put thrash/ sludge on the map.

Pantera is the band that invented you punching people in the face when you are happy.
