They were only the greatest metal band of the last 30 years. Rushmore would be Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Pantera.

I wonder if Phil will be invited to the funeral? I believe he wasn't invited to Dimebags.

I'd have to guess not.

I saw an interview a couple months ago with VP, and the interviewer asked if there was ever a chance for a reconciliation with Anselmo, and his answer was a quick "Never, next question."

Saw him near the bar at a nine inch nails show here in Vegas on 6/13 a bit more than a week ago. He appeared to be fine.

The Dallas Stars ended up at Vinnie Paul’s house after they won the Stanley Cup about 20 years ago. He was notorious for parties at his house

The team got back to Dallas in the middle of the night and ready to party. The problem was that everything is closed that time of night , but Vinnie’s house was always open.

So they headed over to Vinnie’s house with the Cup. They partied through the next day, and when the Cup finally made it to the Stars headquarters it had a big dent in the side.

No one admitted to knowing how the dent occurred, but it came out later it was dented at the party by someone throwing the Stanley Cup off the balcony into the pool. It landed a little short and was dented when it hit the side of the pool. A rumor has long been that it was Vinnie Paul.

Vinnie was a great drummer. His brother, Dimebag, was the greatest guitarist that ever lived. Only guy I ever heard that could play anything anyone else wrote and play it better than the original. Phil once had a dynamic voice, but 25 years of the hardest living possible has destroyed him. Rex was also a great player. I always thought of Rex as a blues musician that ended up in a metal band.

If I remember correctly, the root of that animosity doesn’t just come from how Pantera ended, but in subsequent interviews by Phil afterwards where he basically said he wished Dime was dead or had wished someone would kill him... it wasn’t very long after the interview, a few months maybe?? and that nut job killed him. I have zero doubts in my mind that that was the reason Vinny wanted absolutely nothing to do with Phil.

I remember the night Dime died. I used to frequent a metal music site quite a bit and some guy started posting in the middle of the night that he had just come from the show and had witnessed Dime being shot and killed on stage a few minutes earlier. This was way before social media and fb so people thought the guy was out of his mind full of shite. It was also late at night, so it hadn’t exactly hit the news yet either. Crazy crazy shite.

That kind of music not being your thing is ok. Now if you think Pantera sucks, that’s just plain uninformed.
