TL/DR - man had penis cancer, so half his dong was removed via penectomy. Doctors transplant dong from brain dead patient. New penis is working.

Doctors check the patient's condition after the transplant.

According to reports in international medical literature, only five cases of penile transplantation have been published to date, with the most recent one reported in 2018.
Edit to clarify:
quote:
The recipient, a 43-year-old man, had previously undergone partial penile amputation at the hospital's Center for Andrology.
Following four years of treatment, his overall health had stabilized.
However, the remaining portion of his penis was too short, leaving him with significant difficulties in sexual activity and causing a substantial impact on both his quality of life and psychological well-being.
Although urinary function had been maintained, the patient wished to undergo transplantation to restore the organ's appearance and function and to help him gradually return to a normal life.

The medical team noted that penile transplantation is a form of composite tissue transplantation, so beyond the initial successful survival of the graft, time is required to assess the recovery of sensation, erectile function, and urethral healing, as well as to monitor for the risk of rejection in the medium and long term.
Consequently, the patient will be closely monitored in the near term before a full assessment of the transplant’s long-term efficacy can be made.
Doctors check the patient's condition after the transplant.
