This happens all the time and is a shitty practice by the airlines when it comes to their crew, it often can not be avoided do to late arrivals on connecting flights or weather though.
To those that believe he was randomly chosen by the computer.
They will never force an premium or elite flier off the plane, no airline will.
United would pay 100 grand at this point to make it go away, they may have legal standing but the court of public opinion is killing them already on this.
This passenger was an idiot himself though, once security showed up he was getting off the plane, whether under his own power or not, just the way it is.
Getting the best deal on discount tickets sometimes has consequences and this was one of those times. Read the conditions on the class of service you purchase, they mean something.
Unfortunately I have to fly far too much and see this play out far too often.

I wasn't there, but I think there's a good chance I'd just take by bags and leave the plane if that shite was going down. Especially when the disoriented and bloodied elderly man is running down the isles.
I'm platinum on Delta, but I'd probably switch if I ever saw a paid passenger beaten and dragged off the plane as a result of their own incompetence.

They are going to wish they didn't try to save a few hundred dollars. $800 credit for an overnight delay is not really trying.
Don't call a coupe of goons to beat up an elderly passenger when you could probably entice someone else to volunteer for a few hundred dollars more.

This doesn't look good for the officers. The officers did not follow procedures and should be charged with battery.
This from an online paper out of Kentucky.
LINK
"The Chicago Department of Aviation, in an emailed statement, said the incident on Flight 3411 "was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure." The department said its security officer who dragged the man from his seat had been placed on leave pending a review of the situation and that his actions "are obviously not condoned by the department."

Goons? Beat up?
lol, I'd say the story is damning enough that the over the top words aren't needed.

Whatever idiot wrote that press release from the airport security department might just as well cut the doctor a huge check. They basically admitted culpability there based off of a cell phone video. Fool.

And this is why there is no more customer service in the Airline Industry. The public accepts poor business practices and bad behavior as the norm. Airlines should be held accountable for this kind of behavior.

the man could have avoided all this by just complying with not only the United gate agent (red flag) but also police officers (BIG red flag).
What idiot these days still thinks it is a good idea to disobey direct orders from police officers?

Anyone verify the passenger was actually a Dr with patients to see? Just wondering?
I've been told to get my fat arse off a small Delta plane at BTR before in this same manner. I got a sweet arse $300 voucher, free food, and a flight 1.5 hrs later.
I've also volunteered to take the overnight hotel/food/flight voucher from AA years ago in DFW.
Passenger is stupid. Video made me laugh. I'll fly United ERRYTIME now.

The guy's name is supposedly David Dao. A simple google returns this article:
quote:
A Hardin County doctor has been indicted on more than 90 felony drug counts. David A. Dao, 57, of Elizabethtown, faces 98 charges of illegally prescribing and trafficking prescription painkillers. Dao formerly worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital and owned a medical practice.
Same guy?

One of his charges was forcing a man to have sex with him in exchange for prescription medication.

If this idiot has already paid and is sitting on the plane, I'd throw the same fit he did.
Minus all the squeeling.

You would resist the police as he did?

I was already Team United in this incident. Now I'm GOLDEN KNIGHT United.

Probably not fight police. But argue with the staff then raise hell with united.
But I'd need it to get on social media, so maybe make a little bit of a scene. You know, just for kicks.

United could have avoided this situation by:
- Not letting people board the plane before clearing up the VDB/IDB situation
- Offering more for VDB, why the frick did they stop at $800 then bring in the Gestapo?
They only offered $800 and those who volunteered would have to stay the night and wait until 3:00PM the next day for the next flight. I don't blame anyone for not taking that bullshite offer.
Yea, they guy probably should have gotten off "voluntarily" once the Gestapo showed up. But this could have been easily avoided by UA.
