A video posted on Facebook late Sunday evening shows a passenger on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Louisville being forcibly removed from the plane before takeoff at O’Hare International Airport.
The video, posted by Audra D. Bridges at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, is taken from an aisle seat on a commercial airplane that appears to be preparing to take flight. The 31-second clip shows three men wearing radio equipment and security jackets speaking with a man seated on the plane. After a few seconds, one of the men grabs the passenger, who screams, and drags him by his arms toward the front of the plane. The video ends before anything else is shown.
A United spokesperson confirmed in an email Sunday night that a passenger had been taken off a flight in Chicago.

That doesn't mean you can't get bumped when you buy a coach stand by ticket.

Was his ticket a standby ticket?

that the flight was overbooked and United, offering $400 and a hotel stay, was looking for one volunteer to take another flight to Louisville at 3 p.m. Monday. Passengers were allowed to board the flight, Bridges said, and once the flight was filled those on the plane were told that four people needed to give up their seats to stand-by United employees that needed to be in Louisville on Monday for a flight. Passengers were told that the flight would not take off until the United crew had seats, Bridges said, and the offer was increased to $800, but no one volunteered.
assuming that is true - reason #4billion why United is the worst of the worst when it comes to the major airlines. I will never ever fly them unless last resort.
RIP Continental

Jesus. Why not ask for volunteers? Someone always raises their hand.
EDT: Guess they did. They should have asked again and said is no one volunteers they will randomly select someone. Maybe they did that too. I hate overbooking.

No. United overbooked by 4 passengers, they needed to have 4 get off for United crew to have their seats. No one volunteered..United randomly chose 4..the dude getting escorted off was 1 of 4 chosen.
Shitty luck.

Airline overbooked and asked for volunteers so they could get 4 employees on the plane. When no one volunteered they picked 4 people to kick off. frick United Airlines.

Overbooking a plane is horseshite.

Apparently they did. No one volunteered. They doubled the voucher offer, and still no one volunteered.

so, how do they decide who to drag off of the plane?

Exhibit #4587902 that airlines can do pretty much whatever they want.
Bad PR? They don't care because all airlines are the same and you don't have a choice. Delta and American would have done the same thing.
Lawsuit? Don't make them laugh. They will probably win, or, worst case scenario they settle for a small amount and keep on doing the same shite.

The practice of overbooking by major airlines is total bullshite.
If I'm paying money for a seat on the plane, I should get the damn seat. Another reason why JetBlue is the shite.

Obviously not by mental fortitude.

Random draw. They picked 4 at random to say GTFO
