can promise you that's not true.
Delta is known to be the most 'generous' as well.
When I was in undergrad, I had a flight from LAX->MSY after visiting my family. I dind't have to be home Sunday because I was still on vacation for school. They offered $200->800 and no one budged. I told the lady $1200, she agreed, and I had my sister turn back around to pick me up. I left the next day on the first flight in the AM.
brother in law also gained $800 for a red-eye flight he gave up from LAX->virginia or something, left the following AM and ended up buying a laptop.
