How the Disaster Happened
The Earthquake: A morning earthquake struck the region at 08:37 local time.
The Avalanche: The shaking caused a rock-ice avalanche in the mountains.
The Blockage: Debris from the avalanche blocked the Lhende River.
The Flood: Water built up behind the blockage and broke through, sending a massive torrent and mudslide downstream into Nepal's Rasuwa district and China's Gyirong port.

Buried under 100 feet in seconds, that's insane. Prayers to those people, they had no chance

Well if you built a city at the bottom of mountains and an earthquake is possibly I guess the chances are pretty good this might happen. Unfortunately for this city and the people in it . IT HAPPENED

Holy shite, that is terrifying. Those people had zero chance of survival. Wow.

I wonder what kind of warning systems they have in place over there? Seems like even if you have been given 5-10 minutes (which seems almost impossible anyway), you'd still have had no chance to make it to a safe spot.

The force/power of water is absolutely incredible.

May be a dumb question, but why is there a camera at that spot recording 24/7?

The first video replays on the Daily Mail site
LINK
Where they describe how many international tourists are missing as well as how a 4.4 earthquake caused a landslide that damed up a river and then that dam broke.
When it says hundreds dead, you can almost count that many people running in that one video.

There were additional catastrophic floods.

Why do you build next to a major river?
It's your only source of water but (even worse) there is so little flat land where contienents collde to make the Himalaya mountains. That's flatter than elsewhere.
