That looks like it had to have been a dam break. Thats a tremendous amount of water to be coming down all at once.

The power of water should never be underestimated. Their dam structures were overwhelmed almost immediately and the water just destroyed anything in it's path.

Trying to find a video I saw earlier, but it was of a construction crew working downstream of one of their dams. The gates were completely open and there was a crew and excavator nearby on higher ground. The video shows the flood water coming down, hitting the dam, sweeping it away and you see the crew running for higher ground. It was all over in a blink of an eye.

Wait, no they didn’t. They probably were horrified and prayed to their Buddhist gods for peace and healing in the gulf coast

Found the dam being overwhelmed video. Near the end you can see it starting to come down.
