re: Vicious Alligator Attack in Florida

Just curious, should people not let their dogs loose on the Mississippi River levee?

I see it all the time, and I've seen gators there as well.

No, but I've seen them resting at the waters edge. People walk their dogs without a lease all the time. The dogs frequently swim or fetch in the water.

This is so common in Florida, people shouldn’t let their dogs play anywhere near water like this

No there's not! Bank fishing maybe, but I've never heard of one. Lots of lakes have Beware of Gators signs.

I fish every weekend, from my bass boat, in whatever Polk county lake I want. Are there lots of big gators, yes. Are they aggressive, not really.

My guess is that walking her dog around that lake was a habit. The gator recognized a pattern and eventually took advantage of it.

One other thing, the gator didn't eat her dog while she watched. It drowned her dog and then lodged it somewhere to rot for a while. Gators can't chew, so they prefer rotting stuff.

Good job by the gator. One less pit bull.
