There is a big portion that will bitch on any day. Hell I remember working at a bar and the military guy got pissed he had to pay a cover.

I can think of a lot of people less deserving of benefits than veterans.
Its a long list for those that dont deserve anything, and veterans are on the bottom.

Veterans who feel entitled to discounts just because they are Veterans
During the 2 years I was away from home working harder (and a hell of a lot more dangerous) than I ever had before or after I was making about 1/3rd of what I would have been making back here in Loseanner.
So down inside I do feel entitled to whatever is offered.

the hell with the discounts... give veterans the day off - paid - make the rest of ya'll go to work

I rarely even remember that I can get a discount except fo if we go to like Home Depot and make a big purchase for a home project or something like that. I mean I'm not going to drive 20 miles to get a discounted or even free fast food meal or something though.
I didn't serve for the thanks or the benefits (though being told "thank you for your service" does warm my cold heart)
However are you talking about people who are supposed to get a discount and don't , or are you talking about people who want a discount from somewhere that doesn't offer one? Two entirely different groups.

I don't "expect" them but I do ask just in case. For example, Home Depot is 10% vets discount. I save a substantial money when I go to HD. In fact, I probably have saved almost as much at HD as I made while I was in the service.
Last night I had dinner at Olive Garden (nasty but close to home and I didn't feel like going far) I asked, they actually had their veteran's day stuff Sunday. No big deal but why not ask?

oh hell yeah, I call the emergency numbers on vending machines to see if they'll give me a discount before I make a purchase, doesn't hurt to ask

You must not go out to Olive Garden or Bdubs on Veterans day and see all the trash arse people wearing a Cammie blouse. Yes, there are plenty of people who do this, but like a poster said above, it isn't about veterans, most of it is to make money. That's the real tragedy.
I've never went out on veterans day to get a discount. I sure as shite ask for it for vehicles, home Depot/Lowe's purchases, and whatever else I can save money on that will help me out.
For the ones who bitch about VA disability, most aren't familiar with the process. There are people who do fraud the shite out of it, but getting claims isn't just the snap of a finger. This is also on the doctors and the VA themselves. If people don't like it, go to DC and change it.
I'd love to see all the people in here bitching about it show proof of their service. They are the ones that told a recruiter to fk off or thought they were too good, yet bitch about it, when veterans protect their rights.
/Rant

veterans on disability 8 of em have full time jobs. And Boats, motor cycles............
These are the worst, discharged on disability and still functions normally. Such bullshite. You don’t need those benefits.
His wife found a way to get additional pay while on maternity leave by playing postpartum depression card and not get charged sick leave for both their kids.
Abuses the system every chance he gets....

I usually ask if they have a discount but I never get angry if a company doesn't. I don't feel entitled to any discount but if a company offers one you can bet I will take it and shop with that company again because I like saving money.

You obviously don't know how VA disability works.

Some places offer military discounts and thats cool, some don't, thats okay also. No one should be making a big deal about rather or not a business decides to give a discount
Agree.....I ask and if they don't I say "thank you anyway"......I don't get why people are perpetually butthurt over everything and then become giant stinking vaginas when they don't get their way.

I come from a family of Veterans and I'm a Veteran myself. My dad always told me to ask about a Veteran discount because surprisingly a number of businesses do. If they don't offer one it's no big deal and never has been. But I've dealt with those kind of people when I worked retail. They are the worse kind of people.

blame the mil on that, not the recipients, been away from it for a while but it used to be common to assess an injury as a per cent of how it would affect someone for the remainder of their life, and give it out upon separation, if it's offered, why not take it? it does get absurd though, I know an enlisted guy who, in Desert Storm was fricking around off duty, he cut his hand pretty badly with his own knife, again just fricking off, he gets a small disability for life, same guy retires a couple of years later, and was contacted by a number of companies trying to fill quotas/get gov't. jobs by hiring Vietnam era aged vets, this guy never set foot in VN, and was never in a position where that it was a threat for him to go but he was a Vietnam era aged vet, so he gets a cushy second career, know tons of stories like this

Ppl don't think about this because they are ignorant to the system.
We bitch about vets, but we have ppl drawing ssdi for being fat that never served a day in their life.

As a veteran, part of service is that eventually you have to try to assimilate back into society but continue to carry the burden of your experience but also live life like everyone else. Thats part of the deal. If some business or whatever wants to toss you a cookie along the way, so be it. But the sense of entitlement is silly and I can't stand it.The ones who make trouble are usually those who felt inadequate about their service and seek constant affirmation.
