You obviously don't know how VA disability works

I know how this guy works because he explained it to me. It's a scam, he never saw combat or even close to it and sat on his butt. Now he works a full time job that pays extremely well with full benefits, no reason to get extra from the military for something that clearly doesn't effect his ability to live life just like the rest of us. Him having a disability is a joke.

You guys get very cushy benefits and some people work the system hard.

blame the mil on that, not the recipients, been away from it for a while but it used to be common to assess an injury as a per cent of how it would affect someone for the remainder of their life, and give it out upon separation, if it's offered, why not take it? it does get absurd though,

I blame both, shitty system and shitty people taking advantage of it.

Ppl don't think about this because they are ignorant to the system. We bitch about vets, but we have ppl drawing ssdi for being fat that never served a day in their life.

Those people are shitty too.

If they approved his claims, he has some type of issues.

Some do yes. Why do you get mad that there is cushy benefits? Besides your friend, do you know what VA Disability is? I really don't think you quite understand it. Most ppl take 'advantage' of this because the military really doesn't take care of service members like you think. Don't forget, regardless of deployment or not, they did EARN these 'cushy benefits' just like you could have.

There are some ridiculous claims, but it's not like you just claim this stuff. It takes quite a bit of documentation to rate a claim. It's usually something one dealt with and they will deal with the rest of their lives.

You should look up how much retirement is after 20 years. It's shite for people who give beyond a lifetime of service.

Again, most on here that 'have a friend' or 'know someone' doesn't know everything about the person or the issues.

I do think it's bullshite that people scam it, but it's not like - here ya go buddy here's the $ from what you wrote down. That's on doctors, VA and others in the process.

These are the worst, discharged on disability and still functions normally. Such bullshite. You don’t need those benefits.
Depending on your rating it can be next to impossible to live on that disability as well. Would you rather they took more benefits from the government?

I'm medically retired at 90%. That's not getting it done.

I don’t get mad about the benefits, I could of done the same and went chair force after school and possibly ended up in a real cushy spot as an officer, but I didn’t choose that route because it wasn’t what I wanted to do. Lots of Vets deserve those benefits. I get mad at people that are taking advantage of this system, just like I do with the people doing the same to civilian assistance systems.

It’s the gov, people will find a way pretty easy. It’s on the doctors and system just as the civilian version, but it’s also on the people. They still take it.

It’s not beyond a lifetime, it’s barely anything. Retirement is getting harder and harder for the country and 20 years isn’t even a dent in what most people need to work now.

Jealous much? The dude served, got injured and continued to live a full life.

Why hate him for it?

You are aware that disabled vets can receive a partial rating and maintain a job right?

Actually unless you retire (do a full 20 years) you don't really get shite. A good discharge (not dishonorable) will get you some VA benefits but nothing cushy at all.

The only "cushy" benefit is someone who does 20+ years and gets retirement pay... which is no different than other govt jobs.

I'd like to to hear how much these guys think the average vet is pulling on disability. From some of these responses they're wildly overestimating.

No shite. You have to file the claim, do a C&P exam with a VA doc, and you have to have proof that your disability is connected to your military service. It can be a pretty lengthy process and most of the burden of proof falls on the veteran and what's in their service record.

A 50% disabled vet is going to get around $900/month

100% gets you about $3,000/month... and the vast majority of 100% disabled vets aren't going to be working. They have physical and/or mental issues that severely impact their quality of life and ability to hold down a job.

Right, and most guys I know are rated below 50% and get a few hundred bucks a month. Of course they still work. What else are they supposed to do?

It took 2 years to prove the hearing loss in my left ear was service connected. I wasn't looking for $$$, I was looking to have documentation on hand in case things got worse as I got older. I'm rated at 10%, receive no pay and I'm perfectly fine with that arrangement.

I have a buddy that was with me on my first deployment and it took him almost a year to get his claim approved. In his case, it wasn’t a hold up because of documentation but it was a hold up on trying to get appointments scheduled. Lucky for him, he got backed paid but like you said, it can be a lengthy process and the VA gets into no hurry.

hearing loss

I got denied.

They said it couldn't be proven that it was a result of military service. I guess all the hours I spent standing next to diesel engines, blowers, and HP air compressors don't count.

I'm sure just like every other segment of society there are some who feel entitled- but it's not the majority, of course. It certainly hasn't been a priority for my family and friends who served.

But I definitely support these type of discounts for veterans. I am forever grateful that they made it possible for the rest of us to live our lives and pursue our dreams, while putting their own on hold. In many cases, on hold forever.

It's impossible to put a price on that.

Where you been all your life? At an orgy?

Listening to Mick Jagger music and bad-mouthing your country, I bet.
