One of the obviously horrific parts of 9/11 is the poor souls stuck in the floors above where the planes crashed. It still blows my mind knowing so many felt forced to take their final moments into their hands and jump rather than die via fire or smoke.

I’ve always wondered since if I worked in an extremely tall building if I would consider keeping a BASE jump parachute and vest packed under my desk.

Would lives have been saved that day if any had such gear available? I have zero experience BASE jumping experience of course (as does 99.9% of the gen. pop.) so it might be even silly to assume one could even deploy such a parachute under extreme duress.

Having worked in a very tall building, I can tell you people would assume you're the one about to blow it up.

Id invest in a parachute after 9-11 but chances are your going to get killed going to or from work.

I already thought of this years ago.

Probably posted a thread about it.

I hear you do it right the first time, or you never do it again

Well, it sounds crazy. But if it came down to it, having a parachute when jumping from 100+ floors up really improves your chances than jumping without one.

I’d either be very discreet or privately tell my superior(s) I suppose.

I would have one for sure in my office. I mean, why wouldn't you?

What about a jet pack so you can thrust over to a neighboring building

That’s kind of my thought.

You’re probably f-ed anyways but why not at least just give yourself a prayer? With as many jumpers as there were that day I’ve gotta think at least a few could have made it.
