I do long solo drives throughout the USA in my 911. Summer—windows and sunroof open and 4500 watts of audio playing.

When I ask Mrs. Esquandolas if she wants to join me on a 6000 mile, 9 state, 15 day drive, she repeatedly says “hell no!”

I’ve driven it through 43 states so far.

I’ve gone camping by myself several times. Those trips were mostly local, but I’m thinking about doing a trip to Colorado or Montana by myself next summer.
My wife doesn’t care much for hiking/camping.

I can and have gone by myself to places she either didn’t want to go to or it didn’t work out for her schedule-wise or one of our kid’s schedule-wise.

I’ve gone to Las Vegas for work around ten times and as she has zero desire to go there, it’s always been a solo trip for me.

I’ve got an upcoming trip by myself that she is fine with.

If she wanted to go somewhere reasonable by herself (highly unlikely), I’d not have a problem with it.

We both trust each other.

Same. Especially something cool or fun, it’d be weird to not do that with her, generally speaking

Everything cool or fun to me or even to her doesn’t have to be the same. But we trust each other and have a great relationship so there’s that. Would hate to restrict her to only doing what I like or vice versa.

I love road trips, my wife not so much.

Reminds me of the scene in Knocked Up where Paul Rudds character admitted that he lied about going to work and actually went and saw Spider-Man 3 alone just to get a break from his family.

That's because she's planning for Jodie to come over

I go on week long hunting trips out of state, its usually work related or something similar that I can't back out of though. If she's miffed, then I do some weekend daddy-duty babysittings in later in the year so she can go on a girls beach trip or something to even it out. If you're going on a week long vacation by yourself on your own dime, why not be a man and go to Thailand or Costa Rica or somewhere with good hookers? You can tell the Mrs that you're going "camping" if you want.

I bet she's "glowing" and relaxed when he gets back.

Personally, I’m having a hard time picturing a scenario where either me or my wife would do this. My wife usually wants me to go with her when she travels places and I always go even if I don’t necessarily want to because I like being around her. And vice versa.

But I know couples who vacation by themselves and it seems to work for them so

I go on a golf or fishing trip with buddies 1-2 times a year. I travel for work occasionally so get my ‘fix’ there for alone time I guess.

I really don’t have any desire to go an a real vacation by myself. Think that would raise some questions but I’d mostly feel guilty leaving the wife at home.

Would your spouse allow you to go on one? Would you allow them?

This whole allowing spouses thing is weird. Assuming its somewhere I don't want to go, by all means go have a great time.

Depends on the vacation destination, and how attractive and disciplined you are I guess.
I’ve done several fishing trips and a some good friend blowout trips, but I always ‘vacation” together with my wife. Wouldn’t want it any other way.

Headed to Africa on a photo safari. The wife doesn't want to go.
Was in Abruzzo, Italy on a photo shoot two years ago alone.

Yes, it's a thing.

Wouldn’t have any issue with it.

If the woman is gonna go to that length to set up a cheating vacation, it’s already happening under your nose.

If hunting counts then I take solo vacations frequently. Sometimes I hunt alone and sometimes with friends. My wife doesn't hunt. We both like other outdoor things and will sometimes do them together and sometimes alone. I've never thought much of it.

I’ve done trips with each of my kids, but never a solo trip. Always go with the wife the other times.
