2008. I was solidly invested in the market and fortunately I had money on the sidelines. It was super stressful watching the market drop more than 700 points in a single day during those times of the "great recession".
I stayed invested however and made additional investments as the market was in free-fall. Those decisions ultimately played a major role in putting me in a position to retire early.

I’ll admit though- since then, I’ve never been very good at timing the market. ??

It was the first time I experienced what a truly “electric” stadium felt like. Even pregame, the buildup and anticipation for reopening the Dome was incredible. Gleason’s block was the moment, but the whole experience was one I’ll never forget it. And having the Falcons there as the opponent was just some icing on the cake. Nobody was beating the Saints on that day.

No, but the circumstances do matter. NEVER if it’s your girlfriend or wife and you’re arguing- walk away. But if it's a matter of survival out of a really bad situation where you are being violently attacked, then yes- but just enough to get yourself out of that situation.

After living in Atlanta for nearly 30 years after LSU, the first thing that comes to mind is the Braves.

Beyond that, the airport makes it easy to fly directly just about anywhere, and there seems to be plenty of career opportunities. You get four distinct seasons, sprawling suburbs with lots of trees, and some highly regarded public-school systems. The World of Coca-Cola is great for visitors. You also get to see your NFL team play against the Falcons.

That said, Atlanta has changed a lot since I first moved there and we finally moved away. These days, it seems to be more of a hot spot for (dot) Indians than the college graduates of my day, especially in the suburbs, so it may not be for everyone anymore.

Penisbaum is loving every minute of this, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s pulling every connection he has to keep it going. No doubt he’d have a different position if this involved Bama, the Vols, or even Aubren. Screw him and the oversized megaphone the media keeps handing him.

Done right, it would’ve been much more- a complete DFM-delete conversion imo. My local Chevy dealer only replaced the Bank 1 lifters (lifter in cylinder 3 collapsed), and then the catalytic converter.

I was already done with the truck and had a new one picked out, so I didn’t want to dig deeper into the repair. Just wanted out as quickly and cheaply as possible.

Kinda hated putting it back into circulation knowing more failures would likely occur, but I traded it in at another Chevy dealership who had the Tundra I wanted. Hopefully they get that engine right, or sell it heavily discounted with an extended warranty.

Agreed. After owning my last two Chevy Silverado 1500s- one 6.2L and one 5.3L V8- I don’t see myself ever owning another. It’s a shame because I really liked the trucks and was a generational Chevy guy.

My 2019 6.2L blew the engine at 34k miles while driving from Atlanta to New Orleans and needed a complete engine replacement (thankfully just within warranty coverage). I eventually sold it and bought a 2021 5.3L Trail Boss. At 49,500 miles, it shut down due to collapsed lifters, which also bent a pushrod and killed the catalytic converter from the misfires. Nearly a $5K repair.

It’s criminal what GM/Chevy is putting out. I understand there's a class action lawsuit pending..

I flipped to Toyota. I knew about the brief production run where debris was getting into the engines, but confirmed the Tundra I bought was manufactured after that period. Seems like a solid ride. And Toyota seems to own their problems and take care of them rather than doing everything they can to avoid them, like GM has been doing.

Everybody’s retirement number is different. It really comes down to annual spending needs relative to investable assets + health, healthcare, and insurance costs.

I think retiring with $750K and no debt is doable for OP if spending is managed carefully and they have a realistic plan for health insurance and market downturns. My number is higher, but my situation is different.

Check out the Rule of 55. May be an option for you. I retired at 56 and don't plan to use it, but def good to have in the back pocket if needed.

I've sold several privately- all cash deals with the title in hand. You'll come out ahead financially, but it can be a hassle dealing with people who want to test drive it, negotiate/lowball, or scam.

The last one I sold though was through CarMax. It was super quick and easy, and I felt like I got a fair price, especially considering my truck had a few issues.

Really comes down to whether you have the time and patience to deal with some hassle in exchange for making a little extra money.

Early '90s New Orleans was definitely rough, but I never really felt unsafe. Crime was bad, but most shootings seemed to stay in the projects. Nowadays, it feels like more of that has spilled into other parts of the city.

Cops back then were another story. Some operated on a completely different level. I remember being at a friend's house one evening for a cop's bachelor's party (I didn't know). The amount of coke and the prostitutes they brought in... wow! Hell of a party. Those were the days before everyone had cell phones, and there were very few cameras.

That said, maybe it's just age and perspective, but New Orleans actually seemed less dangerous to me back then than it does today.

Clemson. Great campus, great atmosphere, and the fans are a lot easier to stomach than Texas fans.

I’d say soccer early on, then cross country and track if they can run. Two of my kids did it. Shoes can get a little pricey, but everything considered it’s hard to beat- and one got a scholarship to UGA out of it, which helped me a ton.

Sounds like they’re trying to either sell you a refinance or offer a loan modification. Could be beneficial, or it might not. Personally I’m very skeptical when people try to sell me things. Review all the numbers closely before you bite.
