When are people going to realize the union always in the beginning ask for the high amounts ( pay, sign on bonus, health Benifits ) ? But when everything is said and done the amounts asked for in the beginning are not always received. The same % was asked for in 2009 & 2012 and was only given 3% for year and 2.5% each year after. Unless you where in the industry you would not have known this, only now is the general public speaking out because the Union Walked!

There has never been a day in my life that I supported a union and there never will be a day that I do.
Raises should forever be based on performance.
Raises should forever be based on performance.

The idiocy in this thread is astounding.

How would you recommend this industry base their performance?
No recordable injuries, check.
No fatalities, check.
No recordable emmisions, check.
Didn't kill half of Baton Rouge, check.
Pay me my money.

That is accurate. Along with $7,500 sign on bonus.
In fairness the company offered a 7500 bonus to take a paycut last round. So they are willing to pay a bonus.

Most don't know about the "bonus" the companies were offering. Along with that came a cut in pay. Give you a lump sum now, but cut your pay. By the way, you will never get that cut in pay back.
Also, a raise based on performance is a two edged sword. That all depends on who is authorizing the raise. Many of the people who contend for this don't have experience with this. Like those who won't tip a server for good service, don't understand because they never lived off of tips, yet they expect great service anyway.
Many here don't support unions because they don't know any better. I know this, we don't have what we have in these industries if it weren't for the unions. Especially the non union sites benefiting from the union contracts.

I can make my performance look amazing at the expense of others. Go pinch back on a valve or screw with the process. It will take you more than 48hrs to find the source, by that time I will swoop back in and save the day.
Let's hope I get back in time before that vessel over pressures, but damn, can you imagine my bonus.

Nor will you get back the pay you missed while on strike

85% of responses here stem from jealousy.... You guys have to keep in mind most of the OT is employed by Walgreens/Walmart/Burger King etc.... I'm glad I work in finance! GL oil guys! Get your money! Gotta stop the growing gap between workers and CEOs!

Whats sad is, that all of the people on here bitching about the unions, have done the exact same thing, and then want to complain about the union. If you've ever gone to a car lot and negotiated the price on a car, then you need to STFU. Its no different than what the union is doing with these companies. Its called negotiating.

As in "your" shite, showing posession of the shite? Or, "you're" full of shite, as in you are full of shite?

My secretary worries about that trivial shite. Its a message board, I am not wasting time check my correct grammar/spelling or use of slang. Especially while trying to type it on my phone.

The non Union plant workers do benefit. Union plants set the pattern for pay and benefits forcing even the non Union plants to keep up with them in order to retain employees.
