When are people going to realize the union always in the beginning ask for the high amounts ( pay, sign on bonus, health Benifits ) ? But when everything is said and done the amounts asked for in the beginning are not always received. The same % was asked for in 2009 & 2012 and was only given 3% for year and 2.5% each year after. Unless you where in the industry you would not have known this, only now is the general public speaking out because the Union Walked!
No not by any means! I was being sarcastic. So if you want me to be more realistic about pay IT, payroll mangers , grocery store managers, car salesman hell there is fast food managers who make the same as process operators .
 your comments hit the nail on the head! I bet if the ones complaining where even in the industry no such comments would be made!
It is the same here. But remember a " lock out " is the company locks out union a "walk out- strike" the union goes out on their own. But anyone in the hourly position would go out.
Thank you for this comment ! The average new hire process operator makes $27.86 the pay rate I used was a operator with at least 10-15 yrs experience. The only reason people are complaining is because it is on the news and hits the pocket. I don't see people complaining about stock market traders, hedge fund managers, bankers, lawyers who make in the millions.
So what your saying is you are willing to pay $6.00 a gallon for up to 3yrs? Doubtful .. First you have to get the trainees who have the 2 yr degree then it takes on average 2 months for site training then another 6 months just to train on the unit the operator was chosen for before the operator can work by themselves with out help. The trainee still at this point will not understand the complexity of their unit because the operator has only been trained on 1 job. Each unit can have up to 5-6 jobs or as little as 2. So if you do the math 1 new operator to train on all jobs can can be as low as 1 yr 8 months or as high as 3 yrs.and this is best case scenario there are jobs which can take up to a yr to learn.
You jump into postings without knowing the topic which caused the response . So before you comment read the all the treads .
The post was showing rates which have to do with pay before taxes .
Who says I am union? I am non -union but I can comment on both sides because my husband is union so unfortunately his pay goes to the democrat party . The situation makes for a great marriage ! :nana:
Do you wake up everday to critique people here or just me?If you have any input or a current refinery employee please stick to the topics . If not return to the hole you came out of.

The list of current companies on rolling 24 extensions
Not giddy by any means. I want everyone back to work as quickly as possible , but I understand what they are fighting for. The news keeps showing "double wages" the total is 6% of total the first year would be for a operator let's say at $38 hr before taxes on 80 hrs $6080 a month $72960 a yr. the 6% for the increase would be $4,377.60 comes out to $364.80 a month for a total of $77337.60 (all the rates before taxes). Now anyone who has a family and is paying high deductibles and taxes would come home with maybe $65-68 this on the high side. Does anyone see the union getting this amount "No" maybe 2.5%. But remember if the union is able to get raises and changes to fatigue this also affects non-union employees as well. As far as the President comment " he is in no way my President" never has been and damn sure did not vote for him.
From the link in the post yes the national called for BP to walk tonight at 12:00. The comment made about Exxon was merely looking at all the refineries currently who are on strike . If you look at the list now the only ones left in the top tier of the largest refineries who have not went out is Exxon and Chevron. This is why I said only a matter of time if something is not resolved .

Only union crossing is the building trades union not USW the 2 are separate unions read the link.

Usw calls for strike at BP-whiting and Toledo refineries Sat 12:00. They will be walking out. 2 more to add to the 9.

Exxon will be next only a matter of days
Your right! Worse case is 4 days best case 3 if runnin DuPont schedule no one is to the point of losing a check. Time stopped midnight 1201 feb 1 depending on location the union workers will be getting paid feb 6 or 13. Now the end of the month check is what will hit them with nothing if they do not return by Monday . But remember this is national contract currently fighting ,there is still the local issues which are on hold and no one is meeting. The union members on strike can stay out if the local issues have not been resolved .
These would be the plants now on rolling 24hr extensions since feb. 1 .which would be the ones who would walk this weekend .USW already knows which plants they will have walk out it is part of the strategy they are using.
It depends USW decides which locations go out National negoations is for everyone at every location it sets the standard . Local contracts are on hold till National decides if they will accept. Chevron , Marathon , Exxon, BP, Shell all have other locations which will be coming up March 1 for contract negoations. You can have a accepted national contract and still have a strike on a local contract.
Update- offer was given to USW yesterday by Shell. USW will not respond until today.

Further walkouts may be ordered at some of the other refineries and chemical plants the USW represents if there is no progress in the talks, the union has said.

Leaks have been reported at Tesoro in CA and Marathon- Texas City Galveston Bay (old BP plant)
It is only a matter of time this facility will go union because of the wages and Benifits given to the union workers and I am not talking about insurance.
