Patton had it right back in 1945 after Germany surrendered.
We already had the equipment and men in Europe we should have went ahead and annihilated Russia and then the rest of Asia. Became the dictatorship of earth and we wouldn’t have all the uprisings and wars that’s happened since WW2

I’m starting to come around to the position that this Afghanistan mission was designed only to shovel huge money to military contractors.
From that cynical perspective, the 20 year “mission” was a smashing success.

Maybe not with the lens of hindsite. But if you examine it within the scope of the geopolitical climate of the day, Vietnam made a lot of sense.

All this shows is how shockingly wasteful our military budget is. Conservatives do seem to be awakening to the fact that the pentagon is an extremely inefficient and wasteful government agency like all the rest.
I’ll ask again - what is the function of our army today? The airforce, marines and navy can handle every mission in the 21st century. A 21st century US army will only ever be asked to nation build or peace keep. We shouldn’t be doing any of those things ever again.
